Congrats to them for the title but I think it is due more to lack of comp.

They win in spite of themselves. IMVHO. They do have many gifted atheletes - no question about that. And, no question they believe in themselves. But at times it seems they are more of a collection of individuals - than a TEAM.

I have seen it a million times. If you get up early on teams like Central they will implode..They'll start pointing fingers and yelling at each other..

I think that you guys are misjudging Central. Yes, they have a ways to go, they have things to work on. But they are not at all like the bolded, that I've seen. And that's where playing all those tough teams in the beginning of the season pays off. I'm not saying they'd beat Highlands, but I think these "Could _____ compete with Highlands" threads are self-gratuitous, designed to heighten the Highland's pedestal, while denigrating all the other teams....and not to mention how it further demeans those teams' opponents.

 

Bluebirds, be very happy that you won, celebrate and look to a bright future. But don't start picking apart all the other teams. It's simply not nice.

I will answer the thread question with this question - could Central compete with Trinity? Answer that and you have your answer to whether they could compete with Highlands.

I agree with you totally about the "non-sensical" of these sort of THREADS. (i.e. Could the Rocks compete with and possbily beat either the Bills or the Bungles ??). However, IMHO the posters who have written on the Central program, etc., are being pretty accurate. They do have a "way's to go" - in alot of areas. More than just "running - passing & tackling."

Central would get smashed no question about it, the year they did play close to Highlands, Central was far more talented.

 

I hope you mean that Central was far more talented back in 07' than Central is now, and not that the 07' Central team was far more talented than the Birds of that year.

And that's why I said they do have a ways to go. But I don't see them imploding. They're a young team as well, and as much success as they've had they are still building for their future. But to sit and pick them apart like this is just plain mean, IMO. I'm sure their coach is well aware of what the work is to be done. Some points make are very valid, but others aren't. I think the most valid of all points made in any thread is that they have benefited greatly (maybe even the most of all teams) by the move to 6 classes. I hate when people start pointing fingers at flaws in other programs. Each and every program has something(s) to improve upon. Some more than others. But what is the point of tearing down another program, especially one that isn't even a likely foe?

Central would not score on the Bluebirds. They rely on broken coverage and missed tackles. They are not very good up front. Ask Christian County, you don't score on Highlands by letting speed break tackles behing a poor line of scrimmage.
