Congrats to the gentleman that are working state games from N. Ky. All very good officials and all very deserving.

 

I too know them all. They're all good and expereinced officials. I have also had the opportunity to watch each of them work this season. I agree with Govnah that they are all very deserving!

Remember. If it weren't for officials, it would just be recess. Appreciate the job they do. Complain if you have to but then move on.

And recess was fantastic!!! Gotta find something to vent about.... But agree, have to move on eventually, it's only a game...

There are several good officials in KY, but there are not enough good ones coming up through the ranks. So many bad call in the playoffs. I know it is a tough job, but sometimes you wonder if they are ignorant to the rules, just bad, or corrupt. I feel so bad for the West kid from LCA. Having to watch your teammates battle in the semi finals knowing you did nothing to deserve an ejection the previous game. That is awful. Unless kids are fighting and throwing punches and kicking each other you have to seperate them and just call off setting penalties.

 

You have to wonder if the KHSAA even cares?

Three of the five were the same. Not the entire crew.

 

LCA had a crew in round 3 that was from Southeast KY. One on the crew was from Hazard and several were from the Pikeville area. Considering LCA would be playing Hazard or Pikeville in the semi's that just doesn't seem right. What type of oversight does the KHSAA have. I have been told Julian Tackett the comissioner said there was no conflict. Since that crew threw Zach West out of the game you have to wonder...............

I'll say this - I do respect officials for what they do and would never do it myself!

 

With that said I have been to a game each week of the playoffs - different Louisville-area school every week - and do that every year. This has been - by far - the worst I have seen officials in the playoffs ever. Just weird calls and strange calls.

 

On a side note, is an interception in the end zone a touchback? I never thought so but talked with a friend from Male who said the crew on Male-Scott County game erased a long gain by Scott County kid off an INT because he did it in end zone.

Why don't you ask Julian? I'm sure that he lurks around on this discussion board from time to time. As far as the possibility any conflict, if the boss said that that there wasn't a conflict, well.... that's pretty much the end of that discussion!

Well, you have addressed nothing. Several people I know who deal with Julien feel that he has the same attitude that you have, which fixes nothing. Just because he is now the boss doesn't mean he is right.

 

On the one hand the officials have a very hard job. The officials get very little respect. On the other hand the officials have almost zero accountability. The small number of new officials coming into the system willing to get trained and take the heat means that many bad officials have a job because there is no one else. There needs to be a campaign by coaches to recruit more officials into the fold.

 

One thing I have always believed in is that when the WINNING team is complaining about officials then they are bad. The WINNING team is not making excuses by blaming officials. I have heard more WINNING teams complain this year than ever before.

It depends on where in KY you are speaking of. In Northern Kentucky, I have heard that they have really picked up their recruiting process and have gotten around 20 new officials a year. That's pretty good number. I can also tell you that the training in NKY is done by Matt Young. Matt puts in long hours training the new officials and evaluating the vetrans.

:thumb::thumb: I too think we have exceptional officials in N. Ky and that Matt does a great job training them. I don't agree with every call that they make, but I'm sure they don't agree with every decision I've made.

 

I have zero reason to doubt the integrity of any ref I've every known, whether from N. Ky or elsewhere.

 

And I say, God bless all the refs. Their contributions to high school athletics are greatly appreciated and respected.

I just think the officials need to know the rules and HUSTLE!!! If you watch an official for a couple of plays and he's watching the BALL it is not a good sign.
