Chop block on the Highlands defense last night to negate a fumble recovery. In all my years following HS football had never seen a chop block called on the defense. Not saying it can't happen but I have only seen it called on the offense.

 

I've seen it a few times. Saw it last year in the SK/Dixie game.

Trinity had a chop block against a St. X offensive play last year in the 6A championship game last year. It was gainst a DB hiting a blocker very low on a tight end screen. Seldom called but in this instance it was dangerous, out in the open, and the right call.

 

I remember that play and I also think it was a good call.

Or maybe they see the play correctly and you and the rest of the fans that weren't even looking at what was called are wrong. I would guess that when the fans think the officals got it wrong, the fans are right about 2% of the time. 99% of fans follow the ball and don't even see what has been called much less see it better than the ref that called it who was 10 ft away.

Also, I was informed by an old time ref that the refs from up in NKY going to the state game are not selected on performance. Rather they alternate each year. Guess soccer mentality has seeped into the officiating ranks as well. I know of one from up in NKY that shouldn't even be officiating let alone doing a championship game.

 

Soccer officials are chosen by performance in NKY for state tournament games. I was also told football officials are aloud to do games with teams from there own region in the state finals. That never happens in soccer.

I have to guess that the individual officials don't get to pick and choose who does what finals game. I have to believe that the powers that be from the KHSAA select what officials do what games.

Also, I was informed by an old time ref that the refs from up in NKY going to the state game are not selected on performance. Rather they alternate each year. Guess soccer mentality has seeped into the officiating ranks as well. I know of one from up in NKY that shouldn't even be officiating let alone doing a championship game.

 

I have to say that your info and my info are 100% opposite. If they alternate every year how do multiple officials work every year? Politcs may intervene sometimes but 99% of the time this is not the case. also who is the one official that should not have the priveledge of not doing a finals game?

Mex, I would rather refrain from naming the official in question. I believe it is against BGP rules. I still believe the selection process for officials in playoffs and Championship is not done properly. There should be something in place that takes into account the performance of the official. Those with the highest marks should be doing the playoffs, regardless if they do them for several years in a row. Your performance should be rewarded.

Agreed and the officials know by the third week of the playoffs, often earlier, if they are working that years finals. It is made to seem like a process, but it can't be based on post season performance as some like to make it out to be.

Trust me, if you were there, you would have been scratching your head wondering what the heck this group was doing. Clueless, to me, seemed to sum up their calls at times and the use of the term was NOT intended to bash. Trust me, their job is the last thing that I want.

I sure hope that this is not the case as to how they select the officials for the a Title game. :eek: Should be based on overall performances. I can remember watching the ending of a certain Lone Oak game this year and hope thoses officials are not next in line for this year, if that is how they select officials for the State Championship.

They had a bad night. During one sequence, they called 4 consecutive penalties without a snap. The official on New Cath's side would call Corbin for defensive offsides(Corbin's DL slide from gap to gap before the snap which seemed to confuse this official)and then the official on Corbin's side would call procedure on New Cath, then they went back and forth again. They also called two very bad pass interference calls on Corbin that led to the 2nd and 3rd TD's, the last with about a minute to go in the half. I would like for them to review the tape and explain those calls, doubt that even the NCC coaching staff would have thrown a flag if they were officiating. It was bad for both teams, so I guess it all worked out.

I was at the game. My ??? is if there are 4 penalties in a row should they not call them. The 1st pass interference was to far awy for me to see clearly but the 1 on NCC side line was IMO a very good call. They did start the clock 1 time after an incomplete pass and I didnt understand that.

From talking to other officials I do not believe you are correct.

 

The association submits names to the state and the KHSAA picks the officials. No way the association sends names of officials that are poor. It would damage the entire association.
