I don't think anyone is discounting Highlands. They're consistently one of the top teams in the state. But, you don't get to the state semifinals by being mediocre. HC's defense is pretty solid as well. Should be a good game.

 

I would say there are still some mediocre teams in the playoffs depending on your definition. Maybe I will rephrase it, there are still plenty of pretenders left. That's what happens with 6 classes.

I find that hard to believe. When he was at the Rock, that was a pretty darn good team. I think they may have won it all that year or the next. They had one of the best backs in the state, Reagan, at the time and a couple of really good lineman on both sides of the ball. The team played very well together as well, so I do not think he has that much more talent, IMO. Go BIRDS 20n10

I have some bad news for some of you folks that are saying Johnson Cent is the only team in the mnts that can hang with the birds. I have seen both JC and HC and I will tell you that HC is ever bit as good as JC. Although Highlands has this great tradition they are not the same Highlands that we have seen the last couple of yrs. That team last yr may have been the best team I have ever seen at the state games. With that said ,I say the final will be 21-14 in favor of the Bears.

Highlands jumps off the bus with 100+ kids...I'll bet everything I own that just because they have over 100 kids, Doesn't mean that all 100 kids could play with this Harlan team..

 

Considering that 37 or so are freshman you may be correct sir. However, the former baby birds were a 20 man wrecking crew this past season. It's great experience for the freshman to experience the atmosphere of the playoffs, especially in hostile venues such as the Eagle's nest of Johnson Central and way down near the Tennesee border. Go Birds!

The Birds need to stay focused. No let downs and no mind set this going to be a leisurely stroll through the mountains. HC will come to play and while I am absolutely sure the coaches will have a great game plan I am also sure HC is just not going to rollover. GO BIRDS 20n10!!

 

You got that right. If Birds lose their focus and intensity any team left can send them on a long bus ride home.

Good point, this game will be the 19th varsity playoff game these seniors have been involved in.

Not that it matters on this thread but Birds Frosh scored over 380 pts and only gave up like 70 this season and beat all the big 6A schools like Ryle, Conner, Boone Co and Simon Kenton. Come Again.......

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope this is not what Harlan is hanging their hat on in an effort to win this game. Dont you know that Highlands sends massage thearapists on all buses and Highlands buses only carry 20 players instead of 47. This is why they travel with 18 buses. LOL. Go Birds 20n10
