Trinity 48 Manual 13

Featured Replies

Maybe those of us who have nothing to do with HS football and are involved with schools that do not even field football teams see Trinity as the pinnacle of Ky HS football and thus would think their coach would be above getting an extra touchdown regardless of how evil the Manual folk are........................ Also being affiliated with a Catholic school you should know that any time a Catholic school does something that is deemed "non Catholic" it is going to be pointed out very quickly.

Lets face it Trinity is going to take a ton of criticism on this and rightfully so.............What speaks volumes is the amount of people getting on here and trying to defend the actions. Why not be humble and say you know what we screwed up...........Our track record is really good in this regard but this time we did wrong......That would speak volumes about the Trinity people instead of teh finger pointing at other programs

I was wondering the same thing. How can you try to defend these type of actions? I am begining to think the class doesn't run as deep as some would like to think.

I'm not trying to defend anything. I'm simply stating that I don't know the reasons. I'm simply saying that instead of others making assumptions about what appears to be a bad decision one time, that no one knows the real reason except for those who aren't posting.

Why should anyone admit with 100% certainty that Trinity was wrong if we don't even know why it was done? And if there is a reason, why shouldn't those who think they know the reason state it? Is it only acceptable that Trinity take the bad rap with no defense of themselves?

Even Coach Wolfe said there was nothing wrong with running the play. So I'm not sure why it is that we're even having to defend Trinity.

Regardless, in the game of football, basketball or any other, you play until the time runs out and the whistles have blown. To say otherwise is ridiculous. I have never faulted any team for not taking a knee, and Trinity's been beat by some good margins as well. I draw the line at trick plays, and Trinity was not running a trick play.

Since I'm the one who theorized the "end of game strategy" post, tell me why it's so out of line? I wasn't there and I have no idea why. Just because I present a theory doesn't mean a thing.

It speaks volumes to me how quickly people who had supposed 'respect' for Trinity have jumped ship. All it took was one game and all of a sudden all this supposed 'respect' is gone.

I would theorize (again) that there was no thought one way or another until this happened. If there was any respect, it was begrudgingly given. And many got what they really wanted, what they feel is a good solid reason to "hate" Trinity.

It cracks me up that even when years and years of evidence proves that Trinity doesn't try to 'run up the score', all it took was one late game running play to cement some sort of nefarious intent on the part of the Rocks.

What speaks volumes is the number of people who are professing "respect" and "admiriation" of Trinity who are so deeply disappointed, yet have not one time ever said anything about the team in the past. It also speaks volumes that while most Trinity posters are on record in this thread as having said they think that we should have taken a knee, the entire fanbase, program and apparently Catholic schools have been branded.[/quote

There is also a very vocal amount of posters trying to defend these actions knowing that there is no call for them.

Because no matter what the previous circumstances were, it is classless to call a time out to score another touchdown at the end of a game. This is high school football. Even if members of your opponents staff were classless, you are not supposed to return the favor with an even more classless act. It was no doubt the wrong thing to do.

I will continue to root for Trinity from far away because I think what they have accomplished over the years is amazing and they are a Catholic school and I always root for the Catholic schools in the state to do well. However I stand by my opinion on this.

Low blow and incorrect. I promise you T (and X) have class beyond what anyone outside their circle will ever know. I posted at length how Beatty should have taken a knee and why (albeit bad reasoning) he didn't. But let's look deeper. How many cans of food does the average high school collect for Dare to Care? Bet it's not as much as T or X. Ever heard of the Joseph of Aramathea Society? Kids at T and X VOLUNTEER to bury people in our community who die with no loved ones to stand over their gravesite. They then have to make-up any work they miss at school, often having to stay after school a couple of days. Sounds like they may have some class. How about the Special Need Basketball camp? Held on a Saturday when kids could have slept in. And how many high schools send scores of students to underpriveliged schools with clothes and toys for Christmas, when those kids may have otherwise gone without? I am in no way bad mouthing other schools, merely pointing out that T (and X) have PLENTY of class and they are constantly doing things that don't make the papers or the message boards. So Beatty doesn't take a knee or Glaser whips out an umprella or tips his caps. Those are SMALL roadbumps in the "they don't have class" argument. T and X have more class than most will ever know.

I can understand why people have the same opinion, but my personal way of looking at things is to not form an opinion unless I'm at least 95% certain of the facts. I am bothered because I don't think we know the facts, just how it looks. And I've always taken the "don't judge a book by it's cover" position on pretty much everything in life. I admit I'm partial in this case, but I don't think that changes some of the facts in the matter (eg: Trinity isn't prone to running up the score on opponents), and so I do choose to defend the program I support and is near and dear to my heart.

Reading some of the early posts in this thread, I get the idea that private (i.e. Catholic) schools are supposed to have a different code of conduct on the football field than public schools. Are those written down somewhere where I can peruse them at my leisure?

Ford stood by the Edsel and Sony stood by the Betamax.:D What is funny is that this entire discussion will be rehashed in September.

There are lots of schools that do charity work and classy work both public and private.........This is not about the school doing class.................. this falls on the shoulders of the head coach. Not the kids................I would think 99% of the things Trinity does exudes class.

I know this. There are many high schools where the students conduct multiple charity activities with food drives, special needs children, and community service. This inculdes the one that I cheer for. This has nothing to do with being X or T, and it certainly has nothing to do with being classy on the field. It also has nothing to do with defending classless actions, but it does show what lengths people seem to be willing to go to to defend these actions. The correct answer it that it was a classless action and should not be defended by anyone. Ask yourself what the good excuse for it really is?

Yes it is a tribute to the David lee Roth era of Van Halen!!!!

I also promise to stay out of any conversation about this issue in Sept.

I am really amazed that this thread is (a) still going and (b) hasn't been shut down. Impressive.

I guess my early posts got people on the band wagon in the world of reality. Early on, I was getting lambasted for such comments as "there is no excuse" and that "Trinity lost a lot of respect tonight."

Rockmom - I feel for you. I really do. You blindly support a program without cause and feel that no matter the circumstance, your program had "a good reason" for doing what they did. The fact is, I didn't need to be there to see what they did was despicable and low. I don't have to "know" the reason because there is NO REASON that can justify that action and there aren't enough canned goods or Saturday's with mentally/physically challenged kids that can undo what was done last week. It is out there and will forever be linked to the Trinity football program, and more specifically, their head coach.

And as far as you being shocked that it only took one action for people to jump off the Trinity Support band wagon...really? Ever work in the real world? You can spend a lifetime doing good things for others and if you screw up just ONE TIME, all of that can be flushed down the toilet because it calls into question the motive for doing all the other "good" things you did. That is EXACTLY what has happened here, plain and simple. It's nice to recognize all the good they do in the community. You know what...THEY SHOULD DO THOSE THINGS! They shouldn't get to use those things as a "Get out of Jail Free" card every time they decide to beat up on a lesser talented school, and that's all they did last week. They beat up a weaker kid...how's that sound? Is BULLYING a subject at Trinity or is it just understood when you go there that if you have a chance to demoralize an opponent, you DO JUST THAT.

Trinity, St. Xavier and every other Catholic school throughout this NATION is held to a higher standard...as it should be. And they shouldn't hide from it or bemoan it. They should embrace it and hold it "on high" as THE motivation for creating leaders of tomorrow in today's youth. It's easy to be a fan when you are running a special needs basketball camp or burying dead people that no one cares about....but be a fan when your institution clearly screws up and simply admit the wrong-doing. Stop being afraid of what others will think of you. There is only ONE that matters, and HE did not like what HE saw last Friday.

I wanted to jump in and give my 2 cents worth. I would LOVE to bash Coach Beatty on this but witnessing the analytical mind and genius of Coach B, I gotta think that he thought about the first game and thought if he takes a knee, Manual will call time out. He decided to run the ball. The time out? Sounds suspicious but what about the other 10 players on the field for that last play? Did he run in a left guard to get him into the game? Maybe he ran out of time with the play clock and called it to stop a penalty. I don't think that you keep things tight for the whole game and let the offense take a penalty because of not running a play.

The "handshake" at the end of the game is always a macho scene-lots of testosterone always flowing.

Like I said- I want to give Coach B some grief but I can't comment on exactly what happened and the reasons behind.
