From the Enquirer blog site(good site by the way):

Kentucky football all-state ...

Associated Press all-state nominations were due this week. I sent mine in, with a little help from Northern Kentucky's coaches. Here's how the coaches, after a vote, ranked the top 10 players in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference:

1. Drew Ellison, Covington Catholic, QB, Sr.

2. Ben Guidugli, Highlands, TE, Sr.

3. Matt Sauerback, Campbell County, LB, Sr.

4. Marcus Davis, Boone County, OT, Sr.

5. Lincoln Adams, Bellevue, RB, Sr.

6. Justin Smith, Newport Central Catholic, DE, Sr.

7. Duran Jefferson, Holmes, QB, Jr.

8. James Thomas, Newport, WR, Sr.

9. Tyler Madlom, Ryle, WR, Sr.

10. Josh Canafax, Newport Central Catholic, WR, Sr.

 Wow how would you like to have those kids to choose from on a Friday night.

For what it's worth I got to watch the Lloyd vs. Newport game played at our place and the Thomas kid looks pretty good but the one that blew me out of the nest was Lloyd's QB. That kid must've played the game of his life. I wonder if he got a look?

Congrats to James Thomas in just his first year of ever playing football, he had quite a year although I kinda doubt he is the best player on his team.

Congrats to Duran Jefferson of Holmes, the only JR on the list.

I think Kramer should be on that list.

I think Kramer should be on that list.

Over?

Tyler Madlom???

I'm not debating this list because they are all deserving but if the coaches voted on this:

The KY Football Coach's Association has named Sam Diehl, Jeremy Addington, Drew Ellison, and Matt Sauerback District POY winners. They will be honored at halftime of the state championship game of their corresponding class.

Then how can 2 of the 4 POY winners not be on the Top 10 list when others in their class are?

I believe the local media also votes (for this list). That may be the difference. Is there any specific criteria coaches consider in selecting these players?

If you are going strictly by performance this season...why is Tyler Madlom on this list, and why isn't JJ Hesch on the list??

Speaking of Hesch....one could also ask why Addington was selected for 2A over Hesch? That, however, is another topic.

Just like team rankings, player selections, and rankings are very subjective. For example, go back and review the pre-season write-ups in the local papers (Enquirer, Post, Challenger) regarding the top 5 and 10 players to watch in N. KY. this season. A few of these players aren't even on that list including Sauerback, Adams, Thomas and Canafax.

All respect to Newport and James Thomas, but I don't think he is quite as good as Canafax. No knock on Newport or pump up of NCC, but just what I think from what I have observed.

ESPNGUY...

You'll get no arguement from me on that observation :sssh:

It was nice to ee Marcus Davis on the list. someone has to be opening some nice holes for Faris and OLmen seldom get much credit. I want to put ina good word for Chase Cesil. Frankly I thought he was just average earlier in the year. He has looked great the past several games and deserves some credit for peaking at just the right time. His long passing game is great and he does ok at avoiding the rush and throwing on the run. I look for both Cecil and Burke to put up big numers this week. Highlands DB's are not up to the usual high standard.

Over?

I hate to take anyone off the list but I'd take him over Madlom. I'm not a HHS fan by any stretch of the imagination but that kid is a playmaker.

Jefferson over Hesch & Deihl? I don't understand that.

Jefferson over Hesch & Deihl? I don't understand that.

Me either.
