It is time for Notre Dame to get in or send them packing. The Big East don't need them for the other sports.

TCU would be stupid not to jump on this....They get a shot at an automatic BCS berth without having to play a BCS caliber schedule. What more could they want?

The way I see it, it's no different from people mistakenly referring to places such as Indiana and Ohio as "The Midwest." Um, folks, Colorado is the Midwest. Indiana and Ohio are the Mideast.

Just made me cringe. Huge pet peeve of mine. I have even heard some try and throw in Pennsylvania.

The United States Census Bureau calls Indiana and Ohio "Midwest." The term is over 100 years old and began at a time when the states surrounding the Mississippi River were the western part of the country. To get upset about a term that is historically accurate seems strange to me. The census bureau also does not consider Colorado to be among the midwestern states.

It was historically accurate 150 years ago; not now. Just like the Census Bureau no longer uses terms such as "mulatto" or "negro," it needs to redefine this one to reflect reality.

My point is that, historically, "Midwest" has covered certain states. You claim Colorado to be one, but I think the overwhelming majority of Americans would not consider that to be the case. Those same people, I feel, would just as likely consider Ohio and Indiana to be midwestern. What purpose does language serve other than to make communication easier? If the answer to that is "Yes," then it strikes me that this common understanding makes the term perfectly useful.
