November 2, 201015 yr If you believe 2 Timothy 3:16 (says that all Scripture is God-breathed), then God/Jesus said a lot about those things. If you don't believe 2 Timothy 3:16, then our argument is about something entirely different. What does God breathed mean? If it is the literal word of God, why didn't he just hand it to us like the 10 Commandments? One of the Gospels says: Blessed are the poor. another says Blessed are the poor in spirit. They are very different things. IT CAN'T BE LITERAL. That is only one small example. There are two creation stories, which one is the right one.
November 2, 201015 yr Blessed are the poor & blessed are the poor in spirit do not necessarily mean two different things. There are not two creation stories. There are just two creation stories told with different specifics, the latter in Genesis 2 focusing primarily on Adam and Eve. There are obviously some things in the Bible that aren't intended to be literal (Jesus saying we should forgive 7 times 70, for example), but I do believe that the sixty-six books that comprise the Bible today give us words that God spoke through men in order to give us truth, direction, and comfort.
November 2, 201015 yr I don't remember God or Jesus saying a thing in the world about abortion, nor do I remember much about homosexuality.Simple question for you. ace. If Jesus were sitting in front of you right now and you asked Him if he thought abortion was a sin do you think He'd answer yes or do you think He'd say it's a womans right to choose since it's her body?

I'd think he'd say its a sin but to attempt to make that law based on that IMO violates our constitution and ignores Mark 12:17.

If Jesus were sitting in front of you right now and you asked Him if he thought abortion was a sin do you think He'd answer yes or do you think He'd say it's a womans right to choose since it's her body? i don't believe life begins at conception, so i don't think he would say that it is a sin.
November 2, 201015 yr There are two different Lord's prayers, how can it be literal? How do you get blessed are the poor and blessed are the poor in spirit to mean the same thing? Jesus certainly distinguished what he meant by the poor and what he meant was of the spirit.
November 2, 201015 yr The First Creation story is from the Priestly tradition: Divided into days - Day 1 - Earth, Sky, Light Day 2 - Water, above and below (don't know what that means) Day 3 - Plants Day 4 - Sun, Moon, Stars Day 5 - Animals Day 6 - Adam and Eve The second Creation Story: order of creation - Earth Adam Plants Animals Eve Certainly seems like two different stories to me.
November 2, 201015 yr I'd think he'd say its a sin but to attempt to make that law based on that IMO violates our constitution and ignores Mark 12:17. Jesus probably would answer that way. He didn't care for those that put the law above the policy. Used parables and always questioned the know it alls.

Genesis 1:1-2:3 is a chronological account of the creation story. The rest of chapter 2 focuses in on the sixth day. The plants in ch. 2 are referred to as "of the field" whereas in chapter 1 it is referring to fruit & seed-yielding vegetation. Two different types of plant-life. 2:19 says the "Lord God had formed" meaning in the past had formed the animals. It doesn't mean that he formed them after Adam. And also, Jesus referenced both Genesis 1 & 2 when he talked about Adam & Eve in Matthew 19. So both Genesis 1 & 2 received his endorsement.
November 2, 201015 yr I don't recall Jesus mentioning either one of those socially conservative hot topics. Although I do recall him saying blessed are the poor, telling the rich young ruler to sell everything he had and give it to the poor, saying that the goats who would be separated for him were those who did not visit the imprisoned, nor give food to the poor, but that the lambs who would join him were those who took care of the least of these. I do recall him telling Peter to put away his sword, because those who lived by it would die by it. I do recall him saying that whoever was without sin should cast the first stone. I remember him saying blessed are the peacemakers for theirs is the kingdom of God. Blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy. He encouraged people to pay taxes. If you have a big dinner, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind because they cannot repay you. If someone takes your coat, offer them your shirt also. If they ask you to walk a mile you should go two. Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despite-fully use you, and persecute you. I remember him saying something about turning the other cheek. I will stop there for now. Job clearly lays out unborn children to be "infants" - not fetuses or tissue or embryos. Job 3:16: "Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light." I don't think I need reference a bible passage for you to know what the sixth commandment is in context to what you can and cannot do to those infants. Furthermore...Exodus 21:22-25 "If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." How do you propose penalizing someone "life for life" if it was only a fetus and not a human life?
November 2, 201015 yr Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't God want you to come to him from your own fruition? I don't recall him advocating the passage of legislation to force obedience to his word. Modern liberals would like you to come to their "word" from your own fruition. But if you don't, they'll pass legislation to force it. What are taxes but forced redistribution of wealth according to what gov't deems "proper." What are HOV lanes on public highways but selective permission of use of publicly owned property based individual behavior that fits the gov'ts definition of "correct."

Obviously the term "day" as used in the first creation story is not to be understood as we understand a "day" according to science. A "day" is created by the revolution of the earth relative to the sun, and seeing as the sun wasn't around until day #4 according to that story, the word "day" must have a different meaning.
November 2, 201015 yr I don't remember God or Jesus saying a thing in the world about abortion, nor do I remember much about homosexuality. True, but Jesus spoke out against hypocrisy and false prophecy when He saw it. He was a Jew, and as a Jew, He was taught sexual morality by their religious standards - which He upheld when He said "...the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts — murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person..." Matthew 15: 18-19 If He wanted to speak out against Jewish teachings on "a man lying with another man as he wold lie with a woman", He'da done it.

How do you propose penalizing someone "life for life" if it was only a fetus and not a human life? The scripture you chose actually argues against your point. To give birth prematurely means to have a miscarriage and the fetus does not live. What the scripture here says is if the fetus is not viable but there is no harm to the mother then he gets fined. But if the woman is hurt you go with the code. The fetus bears no consideration in this matter at all. So I will ask you the same thing. Why is the man not punished for "killing" a fetus?
