Carson Palmer

Featured Replies

The thing is the Bengals best bet is keeping him. They are not going to go out and find an elite QB in free agency, or a rookie QB who will be better than him at first. You are right though, with what they have it is going to be hard. The thing is though with the line and the OC they have, any QB will not look as good. Getting a new OC and improving the line are the two things they need to fix first.

No other team would take Palmer because of his contract. And no way the Bengals just release him. So we are stuck with him for the duration of his contract. The line is a concern. He does have a RB that is in the top 10 in the AFC, and two recievers that are in the top 10. ( Going into last week ). So the weapons are there. We said before the season started that failure this season rests on Palmers shoulders. I believe that to be true, but not soley on him. The D also has to be looked at. Yes they have injuries in the secondary, but the line and lber play has been abysmal. Zimmer is struggling also. Honestly, i think last year was a fluke, and we are back to status quo in Bungledom.

I think Ryan Fitzpatrick's success in Buffalo is proof that while some of the blame can be placed on Carson, the majority rests with the OC and HC. Fitzpatrick was pitiful in Cincy, and now he's putting up huge numbers in Buffalo with a bunch of no names...Has to be the OC IMO.

Of course with that said, this season is already a waste, so they might as well do their best at putting themselves in a position to draft Andrew Luck this coming offseason.

His stats are almost identical to Palmer's, with the exception of 2 less INT's. Bills are 0-7, I'm not sure how much success Fitzpatrick is having.

I think he means compared to his production while he was here. Buffalo is just flat out awful overall.

Makes sense now.......I think the Bengals need to clean house after the season. We know that probably won't happen.

I rate CP a 5, give or take 2 points.

No they won't there is no accountability, Mikey makes money either way. They don't have to perform.

^ Every single team in the NFL makes money on matter what. It has nothing to do with that.

I agree, the way it is going, 5-6 wins looks likely. If that is the case, they will be high enough to get Locker or Mallet. If they get one of them then treat them like Carson was. A vet running the show and teaching for a season then hand the reigns over. I would be in favor of that.

What kill sme about these CP threads are nobody except possibly one person argues that he's great and even futurecoach isn't saying he's great so there's no reason to keep bringong it up. Everyone thinks he's either average or below. Some think he sucks. The thing is he's the last person I would blame for their failures. Could he be better? Absolutley. Do people forget how terrible the QB's before him were after Boomer? When you get a QB that has a chance to be great you build a line around him. The Bengals haven't come close to building a good line around him. When Palmer was elite he had an elite line and 85 and TJ were in their prime. TJ has been terrible since he left here so maybe Palmer helped make him. They have an idiot owner and no scouting staff. They have a terrible head coach and an offensive coordinator that is so predictable that most fans can predict what the Bengals will do on ofense so I'm guessing defenses can as well. They have a ton of problems and CP isn't one of the bigger ones. I really hope for his sake they let him leave in the offseason. We all know that is very unlikely, but I for one would love to see it happen. I hope he's a Viking next year and they get a new head coach and shore up their line issues. I think because people are so vested in liking the Bengals they don't realize how many QB's in the NFL aren't that good or are terrible. Guys like Schaub, Sanchez, Flacco, and Romo really aren't any better. We just don't watch every play and every throw they make.

Nuh uh, they don't make any money off of GT's house.

That sums up my thoughts as well. You basically wrote the post for me, but I'll add on:

I wouldn't call the '05 line elite, but they were much better than this year's o-line. The Bengals need to draft another offensive lineman this offseason (they'll likely have a top 15 pick). This line has a guard playing tackle (Whitworth) and another tackle spot with Smith/Roland that isn't getting it done. I can only imagine what Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis are going to do to this team.

Simply put, Carson Palmer is our best bet to win this year and next. Mallett is putting up big numbers at Arkansas, but the last highly thought of QB in Petrino's system flopped in the NFL too. I don't trust the Bengals to draft another good QB, so I think we should take an offensive lineman.

Bengals O line ranked 13th. Ranking is based on sacks.http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=false&role=TM&offensiveStatisticCategory=OFFENSIVE_LINE&tabSeq=2&qualified=true There ar other stats on the site where it appears the Bengals O line is somewhere in the middle. Let's quit blaming the line. Lets quit blaming the recievers, and the TE. I thought we all agreed before the season started, that this year hinged on Cartson Palmer, and his play. Now we are making excuses for an overpaid washed up shell of a good NFL QB. Time to move on. You ask with whom. I'd say pretty much any other QB in the league could have this team at 2-6

Gresham and Shipley 5th and 7th respectively in receptions for rookies in the NFL. Let's quit blaming them
