Yes, there are Christian leaders who are powerful enough to drive a Christian to murder believing they are "right". There are Christian leaders who, IMO, are even more devilish because they are much more manipulative than the Islamic leaders. They're clever enough to keep themselves out of the path of blame because they aren't overt in their call to action, but set the stage by selectively preaching the Gospel to those who will believe it literally, especially the OT.

 

As to isolated vs. group, well, then one must delve into the "sect" of that the individual belonged to. What is the reaction of those within his circle of worship? Were they supportive of his actions? Did they denounce him?

 

Whether 10 or 10,000, whenever there is support, it takes on a new mantle of collectivism in the name of religion.

The logic being used here is ridiculous. Because a man who claims to be Christian kills an abortionist, then we indict Christianity because of it? And because 19 men kill 3,000 people in the name of Islam, then we indict the Muslim religion?

For me, it's a simple recollection of what Jesus said about identifying a tree based on the fruit it produces. The actions of the man who killed the doctor are the farthest thing from Christian teaching.
