Bishop Brossart 50 Dayton 6

Featured Replies

"Has the rights to" seems a bit strong for me. Technically, Brossart's feeder schools are St. Joe (Cold Spring), St. Mary, St. Phillip, St. Peter & Paul and St. Joe (Camp Springs). The 'retain their own feeder school kids' refers to the fact that a lot of kids that go to those feeder schools end up going to other high schools (NCC, Campbell County, CovCath, Highlands and even some to St. X in Cincy). A typical class at St. Joe (Cold Spring) would only send 50% or less of its graduating class to Brossart. I have to say that in some past posts on BGP, people have said things like Brossart recruits\draws kids from all over Campbell County, but the reality is, if Brossart could keep all or most of its feeder school kids they would be very happy.

Oh no, now I'm going to get all kinds of negative feedback saying I'm whining and complaining - but I'm not - just stating facts. It is what it is.

The Dicoese website lists:

Bishop Brossart High School with Primary Service Area: Southern Campbell County Parishes of St. John, St. Joseph (Camp Springs), St. Joseph (Cold Spring), Sts. Peter and Paul, St. Philip and St. Mary

Newport Central Catholic High School with Primary Service Area: Northern Campbell County Parishes of Holy Spirit, Divine Mercy, St. Bernard, St. Catherine, St. Therese, and St. Thomas.

No where does it list anyone as "feeder schools" or students to "retain". Both high schools are "In District" for Campbell County parishes. I don't like any indications that students "belong" anywhere, whether it be the public school in their district or a particular parochial school.

Agreed - game was not out of hand - What was halftime score against a very good Caverna team?? and who came back and won?? This was essentially a playoff game and everthing needed to be done to ensure victory. Also, lets not forget last years game - what was 4th qtr score of last years Brossart / Dayton game and how many did Brossart score in 4th to win that one? With playoffs on line I have no problem with the call and also agree trying to get to running clock. Not to mention this team was coming off 3 losses in a row - 2 of which they had double digit leads and lost.. So in this crazy 1A district - outside of Beechwood - ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

Well done Brossart and good luck

No offense ... but it would have been easier to buy your argument without the "What was halftime score against a very good Caverna team?? and who came back and won?? " line.

"Caverna" and "very good" should not be in the same sentence right now. (Even if there record isn't horrible).

Nearly everything about this situation isn't a big deal .. but ... Brossart and its fans would be well served to keep things in their proper perspective.

Otherwise .. you may turn into the team that everyone else hates (and not because you are beating them).

Bishop Brossart and Newport Central Catholic are District High Schools. The forementioned schools in their "Primary Service Areas" are their district feeder schools.

Since there are no penalties for going to an "out of district" school, a popular premise has been conjured up by the school that benefits most by the theory of "open enrollment" and openly promotes that we are all one big single district, and you can go to whichever diocesan high school you want. Unfortunately, Bishop Hughes had a good business plan, but put no teeth into districting regulations once the districts were established, relegating the districting plan to pretty much a no-districting plan.

If each district high school had a physical junior high building on its campus and each of the high school's district feeder kids attended those junior highs, it would be much easier for people to understand just which kids were assigned to each district high school.

yes - agreed

OK now you can say what you want about the Coaches. They for sure are a emotional group. But the fans? They have been nothing but supportive of this program from the start. They were the foundation that this program is built on. They were what kept the players going in the beginning.

So please don't take their cheering or belittles with rocks shaking or yes even a cow bell ringing as anything but excitement for the players and program.

Well running hurry up offense with five minutes to go in the game was not acceptable. Calling a time-out with three seconds before the game was over was a joke. Even the refs were looking like what in the world are they doing?

Whether you like the term or not, in the Brossart/NCC world, they are called "feeder schools". My child attends a "feeder school" for BBHS but wants to go to NCC. Now, if my child had wanted to play up and join a freshman team and attend BBHS, he/she would have been allowed. But because he/she will attend NCC, my child is not permitted to play up and join a freshman team at NCC. Why? Because our school is a feeder school for Brossart. Stupid rules, if you ask me but that is how it is set up.

Mustang that is a kind way of putting it. Look at the NCC schools and you see why this is a major issue with them. First.......they are land locked................They cannot expand into any more areas. Second................St. Therese is the only one of those schools that gives them a majority of students as the two Ft. Thomas schools are about a 50/50 split with Highlands every year. Now that being said NCC survives (as the intent of the diocesan plan) by getting students from the schools listed as "Brossart" schools. Without those schools NCC would be looking at a very small enrollment. Remember they draw from areas that the public schools have shrunk significantly as well not to mention very hard hit economically (Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, etc). Now whether you agree or disagree keeping both schools open was necessary. Even though the enrollment from those three areas is way down at NCC ,moving kids from those three areas out to a school in even lets say Cold Spring would be detrimental. If the diocese wanted to keep a presense in this "poorer" area required both schools to be viable and productive. However it does come somewhat at the expense of Brossart as the diocese could enforce some rules on feeder schools and higher tuition if you go outside your school.

As far as the game is concerned I was not there but lets face it Dayton is struggling and maybe some things were not necessary. Bottom line is as was stated in a previous post Brossart does NOT want to become a hated team. Brossart in order to fill out a schedule is going to need the 1A schools to play in Northern Ky. such as Bellevue, dayton and Ludlow.

This may change, Brossart has more kids to pull from than NCC, St. Joseph is about half NCC and half Brossart and St. Joseph is a feeder School for Brossart that could change or they will just open it up. Don't forget ND is a open School and they recruit in Campbell Co. a lot, they have 187 Fresman this year all girls.

I don't know what game you were watching, but there was no hurry up offense ran at all in the second half by the mustangs.
