Bishop Brossart 50 Dayton 6

Featured Replies

By the way I talked to a current Brossart coach last night. He said it was a joke the way the coach acted. Told the kids at half time with the score 30-6 that their goal was to score 60. Onside kick was ridiculous, going for 2 was ridiculous. APTR I don't need to make allegations there are a ton of people who are sick about the classless calls friday night. Coach Reinhart and his staff have won a few more games this year by beating Caverna, Betsy Lane etc. I'm sure they work as hard as most coaching staffs but there is a way to win with class and they obviously need to learn about that.

I don't have a dog in this fight. But when this is one's record, perhaps some self-reflection is in order.

Absolutely on target mcpapa. There is not that much difference in the talent at Dayton versus most of the schools you list. Dayton needs to focus all their energy on getting their own house in order. Their talent this year was much better than their record.

I was really impressed with Dayton's #14 Danny Sparks, a junior who was forced to pretty much "do it all."

I thought he gave 100% effort on each and every carry or pass play to him. He seemed very athletic and certainly has promise.

Were he surrounded with a few other equally talented players Dayton would be quite competitive.

I only counted 18 or 19 Dayton players dressed for the game, which put them at a depth disadvantage from the get-go.

Schoultheis, a converted wide-receiver did a creditable job at QB.

While the Greendevils showed the ability to break some big plays, they simply lacks the manpower right now to be competitive for 48 minutes, and the ability to put together long drives necessary to put consistent numbers on the board.

And almost beat Bellevue and Walton. They are way better then they have ever been, they could easily be the two seed. They will be a tough draw for Frankfort who they played good last year.

The onside kick at the start of the 2nd half is fair game. The score wasnt out of hand and Brossart wanted to put them away. Going for 2 is a great idea to try to go for the running clock. That way the game gets over sooner. Beating Besty Lane was a good win because they are 6-3. Mister Cee, please come to the conversation with more facts to make your opinions count. If Brossart wanted to score 60 they would have. They stopped doing anything besides simple dives right and left to not run the score up. Im sorry you felt that the football decisions from the game were poor, but it is football and all teams play that way. As for the outburst at the end, the coach wanted to make sure his players were protected. The safety of the kids is always first. Football is a game of emotions and coach let his feelings be known that he wants his kids to be protected by the refs when teams are playing dirty.

Agreed - game was not out of hand - What was halftime score against a very good Caverna team?? and who came back and won?? This was essentially a playoff game and everthing needed to be done to ensure victory. Also, lets not forget last years game - what was 4th qtr score of last years Brossart / Dayton game and how many did Brossart score in 4th to win that one? With playoffs on line I have no problem with the call and also agree trying to get to running clock. Not to mention this team was coming off 3 losses in a row - 2 of which they had double digit leads and lost.. So in this crazy 1A district - outside of Beechwood - ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

Well done Brossart and good luck

Very well said.

I don't see much of an issue if the onsides kick was to open the 2nd half.

Pretty good assessment of the situation Rhino. The extra display of emotion by the BB head man near the end of the game was due, in my opinion, to an outrageously late hit very far out of bounds by a Dayton player, in which the officials just sat on their flags?? The kid was 10-12 feet out of bounds when first hit, and then wrapped up and thrown towards a concrete wall. While I hate ticky-tac flags in a blow-out game, this was a situation that called for a flag if not an ejection, as its never OK to cheap shot kids and BB has a playoff game to prepare for.

Curious if Mr Cee saw that event, or if he's commenting from the internet with his usual anti-Brossart rhetoric?? While I agree that you win with class and lose with class, I can't say I saw much to complain about in the BB strategy once they had the game in hand? Can't comment on any trash talking, etc., but if you expect to build a winning program, you can't allow your kids to be drawn into reacting to this type tactic--Just let your play do the talking. All in all--Much to do about nothing IMO. Simply a BB hater trying to start something where nothing exists.

Regarding the move to 2-A, I think this will be proven to be yet another ill-conceived KHSAA move; as BB is clearly a single A sized school in a 6 class system at this point. This may prove to be yet another setback in the development of this young program, especially with the implications in trying to retain their own feeder school kids; but I'm confident they will survive and ultimately prosper as they've done in all their sports!!

Best of luck to both programs in the final games of their seasons!!

Brossart will be fine in 2A.

I agree. This year Brossart would have done about as well in the 2A district as they did in the 1A district.

You keep referring to Brossart's feeder school kids. What Junior High kids are you indicating that Brossart has rights to?

They have no feeders that are set in stone, but I'd guess anything from St. Joe's in Cold Spring south would be considered Brossart feeders. Then again, you run up against the "I went to NewCath, my kid is going to NewCath" mentality on occasion, which is perfectly normal. That's something I expect to see less off in the southern part of the county as Brossart establishes a football identity.

Thinking back to the proposed merger in the late 80's, I wonder what kind of juggernaut a NewCath/Brossart combination would be in NKY football and where they'd be playing. I'm gusssing right alongside Highlands and CovCath.
