Whose job is it to call of the dogs? If the losing team won't pull its starters, why should the winning team do so and send in freshmen and JV players against a group of upset varsity players that have had their hats handed to them?

 

I've seen injuries and cheap shots associated with a losing team keeping their starters in.

 

Once the losing team starts subbing and concedes, then you pull your starters and go conservative. But not until then.

 

If a team is up by 35-45 points in the second half they should substitute IMO. Otherwise, they run the risk of getting starters injured in a game that is already well in hand. Fort Campbell generally starts to substitute if they have a running clock or they are significantly ahead in the 4th quarter. I don’t agree that the losing coach should concede and substitute first, because that sends the wrong message to his team IMO. As far as the JV players getting hurt, if one team’s starters are 45 points better than another teams, then their 2nd string should at least be competitive in most cases. If it is an issue of cheap shots and dirty play by the losing team then the refs need to take control.

I saw something for the first time ever a few weeks ago. In Illinois, the running clock is 40 points and we were up 73-27 with subs playing since the 3rd quarter. When our reserves drove down inside the 10 yard line with 6 minutes to play in the game, our coach had the offense take four consecutive knees and give the ball up on downs. The losing team then did the same thing and with a minute to play in the game, the head official picked the ball up and ended the game. This was the first actual "forfeit" I had seen.

Its not a forfeit. Both coaches mutually agreed to shorten the quarter and end the game. As stated in the rule book this acceptable way to end any quarter or game.

IMO the programs (players) are winning with class. It's the overgrown has-beens that were probably losers when they played that get on here and try to be part of the winning program by bragging and whatever else white noise they can make.

How about Highlands winning streak. Now this is ridiculous. It's absolutely meaningless as well as a purely vainglorious achievement.
