With the nice win over Raceland is Fairview a legit 1A contender or are the 1A teams on the top of the mountain still too much for the Eagles?

I haven't seen Mayfield, LHC, Beechwood and Hazard play. I can only see what they are doing to other teams. So I don't know. Doubt anyone has seen all play this year. All I can tell you is they are big up front and seem to be agressive.. The backs have some speed and quickness on both sides of the ball. We couldn't get any passing lanes opened up. For the most part the QB was running for his life. Don't know how many int. we had. Maybe four or five. All because of pressure on the QB and no one open.

I can tell you they are good. Real good!! We'll see how they fair vs LCA. If they do the same to them. Then they may be a top four maybe five.

I think they are a contender right now. If they beat LCA, that will elevate them a little more.

My guess is no. Raceland as far as I know has never contended and Fairview handly beating them makes no statement to me.

I knew Fairview was good, but I have to say I was impressed with them yesterday. They had more speed then I thought, and the line play was a lot better then I thought. I have followed 1A football my life and I would have to say they are a contender. It will take a great team, and some luck to beat Hazard, LCA, and Mayfield; especially this year. But, contender? Yea, I would say they have as good of a shot as anyone.

 

With that said, I still think Mayfield is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone and Hazard it the team in the to beat in East to get to the finals.

I don't think that Mayfield is "leaps and bounds" ahead of everyone, especially Louisville Holy Cross. The Holy Cross-Paducah Tilghman game in two weeks will give us a point of reference, at least.

Fairview is very good. Fairview is well coached and very strong on the line and that is where games are won or lost. A state title contender, who knows but from what all I am hearing and reading I don't think they are better than a Mayfield, Lou H.C., Beechwood.....the teams at the very top of Class A. I do believe that they can and will be very competitive with LCA this year.

I guess what I am saying is no, I don't think they are at the very top but they are close this year and on a one night, one game scenerio which it is in playoffs Fairview could possibly beat anyone. As Lou Holtz has said "you don't have to be the best all season, you just have to be the best in that one game for around 3hrs in that paticular game".

I do believe one thing going against Fairview may be the "haven't been there before" factor like some at the very top have been and are experienced in playing those type of games.

Maybe Raceland isn't that good this year? Who have they beaten? They talk of Fairview's weak schedule but Raceland doesn't have a quality win. Maybe this year Raceland is adding to Fairview's weak schedule? Just a thought....

You are correct in that Raceland is down, especially from what they have been in the past years, they have a very young team with limiited varsity experience (except for the qb). As Ram has said , in reality Raceland has beaten the teams they should have beaten and lost to the teams they should have this season.

So no, Raceland is not all that strong this season, imo they are average. Raceland is the best team that Fairview has played so far. Fairview plays LCA in a couple of weeks and that will be a better test for them.

Fairview has an excellent team. I read on another board and have heard things about some of the Huntington players that transferred. Are they under investigation or is this just sour grapes? Actually the board I read it on claimed Ashland turned them in. It seems like alot more than a child or 2 moving into a district. Have heard alot of rumors,anyone with facts on this? I mean hearing free rent,addresses that are bogus, etc. Just wish someone could clear this up, as to not take away from their team. No sour grapes here, and best of luck. I think Fairview will go into the playoffs undefeated.

The past is the past. What one did last year or years past has nothing to do with this year! Fairview has not had this good of a team for years. Does that mean because they haven't won a district championship in years and never a regional or state title that they never will!!?

 

Beating the Fulton teams and a few other teams on MHS schedule doesn't help to make a statement either! I do believe MHS is the best their is this year. But I'm wrong about 50% of the time each year on who wins the state. Usually because not every year the best wins! Things happen. Thats what s fun in having playoffs. We just don't know what is going to happen!

Since at this point Fairview or Raceland has never to my knowledge in recent memory done anything in the playoffs

to warrent consideration of being a contender my view is they are not.

 

My view is that either Mayfield, LHC, or Hazard will win the title.

Like you I am wrong lots of times but I can usually guess with great accuracy within 3 teams.
