Turned out, LCA WAS only a couple of linemen away from, not just competing with, but trouncing Beechwood.

 

Oh, and I want to add that the new linemen that beat Beechwood were Freshmen and Sophomores.

 

What does LCA return at the skill positions?

 

I know LCA will be a force in all athletics in the future, I have no doubt.

 

However, for some reason I was under the impression they had quite a few skill athletes who were seniors. Will they take a step backwards next year or will they continue their current trend upward?

Besides Hayden's running and sometimes Krueger I thought they didnt have much. They never completed a pass to the tall Henderson boy when they played us this year. Congrats on the win and good luck.

We lose 8 seniors...7 skilled position players and one lineman. This is a large class of seniors for us to lose! 5 of them play both ways all the time and the others play both ways alot of the time.

 

As far as re-loading with athletes - yes ...experienced - no. These underclassmen have been playing in the shadows of those 8 seniors for 3 years...We will be a young, but aggressive & talented team over the next couple of years - with a Sophomore QB next year and several in-coming freshmen making an impact (Tyrell Hayden's younger brother Dominic!)

Late in the game, as I was only watching a few key players from Beechwood that actually looked like they were doing something, I was telling a few friends about how you predicted the 42-28 score, then the Tigers got a few late TDs and was making you look pretty darn smart. :irked:

 

Not taking anything away from LCA, it's either them or NCC that takes the state title. But, I don't think a lot of the players were ready and didn't come to play, this game should have been a lot closer. BUT that doesn't mater, it only matters if you win.

 

Good Luck next week, although I would like to see our district rivals win.

Eagleeye thanks for the updates on the Beechwood game tonight. Congrats on a great win for your program. You guys better play your A game against New Cath like I told you on the phone. This team is for real. I really don't know how this Beechwood team beat New Cath.

This game was won by LCA because they were definitely HUNGRY for it and their Seniors stepped up and made plays when they needed them - on both sides of the ball. We even had our starting center go down in the 1st quarter and brought a Freshmen in to finish the game - did a great job!

 

If anyone was AT the game - they would tell you that LCA played with passion and motivation the entire game and they just earned this victory...sometimes a really good team doesn't look as good because of the way their opponent is playing - and I believe this was the case tonight - Beechwood is a VERY good team and WE ALL respect them, their fans and coaches - CLASS is an absolute part of their TRADITION! Great year Beechwood and we hope we can say that you were beat by this years STATE CHAMPIONS - like we did last year...

You have been a very reasoned and polite antagonist. I have enjoyed going back & forth with you.

 

A major disagreement I have with you and other NKY people is the emphasis you put on tradition. Yes, it's part of the mind game. It adds to the "aura" and is an intimidation factor.

 

But, in reality, it simply means that your daddy or brother or friend got it done, not you. To me, tradition is one of several factors: home field advantage, program momentum, weight training, coaching skill, and varsity gametime experience.

 

I happen to think that "varsity gametime experience" matters far more than tradition. there is NO SUBSTITUTE for actually playing games. 18 out of 22 varsity positions for LCA were filled with guys with AT LEAST 2 full years of varsity playing time. You just can't substitute for that.

 

My first post was filled with a bit of enthusiasm when I asked if NCC "had a chance" with LCA. But truly, this group of 8 seniors is on a mission, and they have the experience to dominate.

 

Lexington Catholic fans may get on my back, but that game should not have been a blowout (I may expand on my analysis of the LexCath game in the future). It was, and NKY fans simply looked at that score and concluded that LCA couldn't compete with a great team. They do so at their peril.

We even had our starting center go down in the 1st quarter and brought a Freshmen in to finish the game - did a great job!

That freshman, young Michael Harmon, has been a great addition to the team. Up to, and during the LexCath game Michael was a "wide-eyed" kid who was very intimidated by the Knights, and was happy to have survived to tell the tale. He is now a critical part of our team.

 

By the way, after the LexCath loss, some posters (& even LCA parents) claimed that I was putting "spin" on it by saying good could come out of a lopsided loss. I stated that for some of the kids, just surviving against the Knights would pay dividends later in the season. Guess it has.

Congratulations To LCA players they played with heart and truly laid it out on the line. Tyrell Hayden was a man among boys tonite. You know your program has made a step when you hear Beechwood(9 time state champions) supporters complaining of LCA running up the score when they took a 35-7 lead. This was a great win for up and coming sports program.

They sure didn't mind laying 62 points on LCA last year....

 

As I recall from the thread about "Blowouts" last August, the consensus was that an underdog should should lay on as many points as they can against the favorite, ESPECIALLY if they are the state champs.

 

I was honestly disappointed that LCA's coaches allowed the Beechwood JV to score. The final SHOULD have been 42-13.

 

AND, LCA was headed for another score when both teams put in their JVs.

 

Let's sum up: that's a 71 point swing from last year....

Bluto should be able to gloat a little bit. This is high times for LCA. However, NCC is going to much tougher than Beechwood. The Breds are a team on the way up (like LCA) and the Tigers have been a team headed down.

I understand what you're saying. I have to admit that listening to NKY people brag about their tradition and their tough schedule, and dismissing LCA's opponents for OVER A YEAR has, indeed, gotten to me.

 

Last year all we heard was how LCA "DESERVED" to be thrashed by Beechwood. [to be shown their place]

 

I'm sure you read my last post. The GALL of a Beechwood supporter whining about a mere 35 points against them, when they piled on 62 last year, deserved the reply I gave it.

 

If you look at my posts this year, you will see that I truly try to give reasoned analysis, and not trash talk. But, yes, I am probably replying with a year's worth of built up "payback" (not the right word, but I can't think of a better one).
