Which part do you disagree with? More errors today? If I remember correctly you're in your 20s, right?

I disagree about more bad calls. Yes I'm in my 20's but that doesn't really mean much. Yes I don't know much about prior decades in baseball BUT it seems that bad calls have gotten worse as baseball has went on.

So you disagreed with my point yet you have no memory of calls past 1995?

The only thing that has changed in the past 50 years is the fact that bad calls are NOW shown immediately across the globe.

Due to the fact that a)humans are involved and b)judgement is involved mistakes have been made consistently since the late 1800s.

You could limit it to 1 challenge a game and then if you win you keep it something of that nature, other wise you would see a million a game most likely.

Way too many plays. There are no more bad calls today than there were in the 50s,60s,70s,80s, or 90s.

It's part of the game.

I have never understood the "It's part of the game" argument. So MLB has an obvious problem but they should do nothing to try and improve a broken system? We know the amount of calls incorrectly made may be the same, but we also have advanced exponentially in technology. It is pitiful when there is an obvious blown call and every single person (including those in the stands) is able to know the outcome 1 minute after a call takes place, yet the umps have to use their best judgement because that is how they did it during the Roaring 20s. Like most things, baseball is way behind the times with replay and is too consumed with preserving a nostalgia which has eroded along with its popularity.

Agreed. I think you have to implement some type of limited challenge, maybe 1 or 2 per game at most. You can challenge fair/foul, home runs, trapped balls, hit-by-pitch, and safe/out. If you get it right in your challenge then you can have 1 more during the game. If you get it wrong then you forfeit access to the second challenge.

I don't think you should be allowed to challenge a check swing (like the Texas game yesterday) since there isn't a written rule that states what is and isn't a swing.

I don't buy the argument that it would make the game longer either.

There is no way any good can come out of something like that. Some things are judgment calls and even on replay are still judgment calls. No need to include those in the mix.

Then remove the umpires completely and use technology.

No longer than it does now when umpires get together to discuss a call that no one saw. I think you would need a type of "booth umpire" (similar to college football) that you can immediately access. It should be fairly simple for that extra umpire to make the call, especially since there isn't likely to be anything as complicated or judgmental as things like "ball possession" in football.

Then remove the umpires completely and use technology.

Why do we have to jump completely into the deep in? What's wrong with making a couple tweeks to insure the call is right? Nobody is suggesting that the umpires be scrapped and cyborgs replace them. But most people want the call to be right and to be fair, no matter the sport.

I would disagree with you on that, just because of expansion. There were 16 total teams in 1950 that played a 154 game schedule...there's now 30 teams that play 162 games a year. That's a huge difference!

With that expansion in games (1,232 for the league in 1950 to 2,430 this year) that means you need nearly twice the amount of umpires...which means your "talent pool" is getting watered down. You no longer have an all-star caliber umpire at every position for every game.

But I think the biggest reason why we are seeing so many more errors this year, is just the sheer impact of technology. 30 or 40 years ago, there may have been 6 cameras that were used to cover a game. Now how many are there? 8? 10? 12? And let's talk about the quality too. When they can slow just about any shot down to frame by frame action...you're getting something the people at home didn't get in the 1960's. Which means, those errors may have been occuring back then, but nobody raised such a ruckus, because there wasn't a definitive shot that showed otherwise. Not true today.

I'm not totally against it. But how do you just do it for postseason? Asking for all kinds of issues if they don 't do it all season and then just roll it out in October. No, I digress, I am against it. I have no problem with the game as it is today.

Heck yes. There have been way too many blown calls the last few years in the playoffs. It's time to get the calls right.

That would be better than saying we've always missed calls we should just keep missing them and live with it. I can't believe anyone uses the argument that we have always had blown calls lets keep having them. In the 70's they didn't have the technology they have now. It is crazy to not use technology. It's 2010 not 1975.
