I'm a little torn on the matter right now, I think in a way it should be because there were some obvious blown calls (Posey trying to steal 2nd) but it'll lengthen the game. Plus, to what extent is it expanded? I mean is it a manager's challenge? How many per game or is it every stolen base attempt?

 

Seems like a lot of hassle but IMO something needs to be done, maybe it's just the umps and they can't see anymore but the last couple of seasons in baseball has had horrible officiating.

I think it could be expanded to things like the Jeter play, fair or foul...etc. The only way safe and out can be replayed is if you limit it to one challenge a game. Still, most close calls warrant some type of argument. Simply asking for a replay could speed that up.

 

As for the other plays, MLB Umps would have to change their views a bit, like NFL officials. They are much more likely to let a fumble play out than before. At least if you get it wrong you know which team recovered. For the MLB, if it's close to a fair ball they would have to call it fair. That way it plays out and all runners advance like normal. If they deem it foul, everyone can always go back.

 

As for the Jeter type play. It took about 8 seconds to watch a replay to realize that didn't hit him. Meanwhile, Maddon was out there for nearly 3 minutes arguing. If they expand it to these few things, any game with a significant argument will be sped up.

To clarify, I'd be okay if it wasn't expanded as well. Just if they did, I'd like to see the above.

I would in now way shape or form include balls and strikes but I think it needs to be expanded. The problem is how far do you go?

Then find some way to incorporate steal attempts or plays at first.
