What other 6A schools are located within a 6 mile radius of either school?

 

Ryle, Conner, and Cooper are probably all within a 5 mile radius of one another.

T and X folks should look at the glass as half full on this one. It opens up another playing date to schedule a team that will bring a crowd to their game. It is much smarter for T & X to play a Cincy X (and lose in front of 8000 fans) and get BETTER than to play a local team in front of 2000 fans.

T, X, H, and Manual would be a gold mine for T & X. This would actually probably make Fern Creck and Seneca mad because every other year they make probably 1/2 of their entire season gate when T or X comes to their place. They want to trade that for a chance to play another week or two in November?

If what the Enquirer published holds true the X, Trinity, Male and Manual will be in the same district.

 

I really want to hear the logic behind this because I can think of at least 3 schools that Trinity is closer to then these three.

 

I'll also guarantee that Male will have is panties all in a wad because they move up from arguably the worst district to this. They've also done everything they can to dodge playing Trinity during the regular season since Jimmy Jordan was coaching there. Rumor also has it that Manual was a bit out of sorts after Trinity beat them AGAIN this year and indicated they wanted no part in continuing the series.

 

The bottom line as far as I see it is that the KHSAA gerrymandered a "super district" of the 4 schools in Jefferson County that have no resides district. Heck, when I was a public school wonk (about a million years ago) I suggested that very thing. I at least hope the KHSAA has the stones to admit this is just a ploy to make the private school bashers happy but I won't be holding my breath.

Judging by the map that they released to show the grouping (http://www.khsaa.org/football/realignment/20112014/fbmap%202011-2014%206a%20large%20format.pdf), they're sending Seneca past three D4 teams to play in D3. Butler and PRP are together, and Southern is off alone by themselves at the bottom. Meanwhile Manual, St. X, and Male are all closer to Butler and PRP (and Male closer to Southern) than Seneca. Now, I have no idea how this breaks out with roads given that there aren't any on this map, but in terms of where they are as the crow flies, there's no way they should've been able to justify this.

 

It looks to me like Balard, Trinity, Eastern, and Oldham County would've fit like a glove. Fern Creek, Male, Seneca, and Southern likewise, then St. X, Manual, Butler, and PRP together. It's no accident either that that is how those schools are pretty much currently grouped. X, Manual, Butler, and PRP are currently District 3. Male, Southern, and Fern Creek are currently District 4. Trinity, Ballard, and Eastern are currently District 5. The only difference is Seneca moving from District 5 to District 4 to allow Oldham County to group naturally with District 5. The map makes it plainer than ever how they basically did this "just because".

One thing that does confuse me, is why continue to do the playoff pairings shuffle if you've now got Trinity and St. X in the same district? Is it so you can change up the schools that get to feel good about themselves and be runners-up still?

I'll be the first to admit that your points are all valid.

 

However....when you have two schools that are just 5 miles apart, does it really not make sense for them to be in the same district? Louisville is a lot like nky, in that the schools are all crammed together because of it being an urban area.

 

People can cry all they want about the re-aligment but if they're going to complain about being in a district with another school that's 5 miles away, try telling that to the KHSAA who has some districts with teams that are over 2 hours apart.

 

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense for the districts to remain how they are, but, it also isn't that big of a deal to change them up considering how close all of the schools are to one another.

 

As stated before...if you want to complain about the distance between schools in a district, blame 6 classes.
