I would hope if they can't get Joseph to agree to a long term deal that they would tag him to keep him at least one more year. If not they should take a QB and start over or trade a pick for Kolb. I don't care if they let Benson walk. He's not that great.

It's all relative. He's their best player. They paid a guy $7M last year to practice one time. They need to try to win the division next year or go away from Palmer and other vets.

They will not sign them all, if any.

 

I get mad that they are not more proactive, signing players early before the contract expires; they did it with Chad and it saved them boatloads of money.

 

I originally wanted them to do it with TJ, but after seeing how last year went, I think letting him and his attitude go was great for team chemistry and getting him away from Chad was good for Chad, just like signing TO was bad for Chad this season; Chad is a follower.

 

Lately, other than TJ, they have been pretty good at signing their own; they just resigned B. Johnson and Ced 2 years ago I think; no reason to think all will be gone, if you look at recent history.

I really hope AJ Green isn't available because I fear they would draft him. If they were dead set on a receiver in the draft it was a mistake not to take Dez Bryant and they could have had Hernandez where they drafted Shipley. I like Shipley and Gresham a little but Bryant should have been the pick so they wouldn't have to keep drafting them. How many picks in the last decade have they used on WR's or TE's in the first 3 rounds?

 

Gresham, Shipley, Caldwell, Coffman & Simpson look pretty good right now; I fault the Bengals for not getting Coffman, Caldwell & Simpson on the field earlier; that is one of Marvin's faults; he'd always rather go with a veteran; it took them awhile to even get Dunlap on the field.

Benson is their best player (minus the fumbles); he is the most consistent performer by far and he's been doing behind an average Oline at best!

The fumbles are kind of important. RB is the easiest position in the NFL to fill. All you need is fresh legs and someone that runs hard. Benson's are a dime a dozen. I don't mind bringing him back, but he's a lot easier to replace than Joseph.

So three teams finished about .500 in the divison, and you consider it a down year in the division? As a whole the division was better last year than it was this year. So I guess the Steelers took advantage of a down year in the division this year then? The Bengals were just a better football team than the Steelers last year, and was a good team last year. It was because of the Bengals for why the Steelers didn't make it, because they didn't do what they usually do to the Bengals. The Steelers are just a better ran franchise with better coaching, so they are able to consistently be good. I never said the Bengals were a good franchise, they just were a good team that year.

Do NOT want Green on this team. If anything we need a solid veteran on the WR core. There are so many moves I would make to turn this team around. They seem so simple but Brown just won't try. They need to cut so many players on this team if they aren't going to be FA. Cut loose Odom and Geathers to start off. That should save quite a bit of money. Let Owens and Ocho walk as well. Getting JJ to come back is somewhat crucial but I would not use the expensice franchise tag on him. Look for a long term type deal for less overall money or just draft one of those two stud CB in the draft. At least one of them will be there at the 4th pick.

I totally agree with letting the 4 go you mentioned; there are other FA's I would let go as well; I would focus solely on Benson, Joseph, and B. Johnson.

 

Peterson would be a great pick; a few experts have him as overall best player, but I haven't seen Amukamura rated as high as #4; he seems to be projected to go in the 8-15 range.

^Yea would be a reach for Amukamura but if JJ chooses to leave and Peterson is gone then I would be ok with that pick honestly.
