Could this be the last time (at least for a while) that these two teams play? If the projected alignment for 2011 and beyond is accurate, then HHS will not be playing Dixie as part of a District match-up, and one would have to question the value of having them on the schedule earlier in the season. Or, would Dixie even want to play Highlands when they don't have to?

 

If I'm not mistaken (don't even go there ), a short time ago, Dixie and HHS were not in the same District and still played? It seemed like they played early in the season, Dixie even won one year but I believe it was when they were not district opponents..............I personally would like to see these two teams continue to play.

When there were only four classes Highlands was 3A and Dixie was usually (f not always) 4A, yet they still played each other during a lot of those years. In 2002, A talented Dixie squad beat Highlands 21-14 in OT. Not counting the 2004 game (which HHS won on the field and later had to forfeit due to the Mitchell situation), this is the last time Dixie beat HHS. Also, that Dixie loss in 2002 marks the last time that a NKY team not named CovCath beat the 'Birds (again, not counting the 2004 forfeited games). CovCath beat HHS on the field twice in 2006 (beating HHS 29-27 on a last-second TD pass in the regular season and 25-15 in the playoffs). That's it for Highlands' NKY losses since the 2002 Dixie game. Wow!

Considering Dixie is one of very few teams geographically (in Ky obviously) that may actually compete with HHS in any given year is reason enough. Additionally, they typically have athletes of a caliber that provides a test to HHS athletically..............on the Dixie side, I would hope that they will continue to attempt to progress their program and playing the best teams is the best way to challenge/measure yourself.

Dixie could benefit greatly from preparing their players better in the off-season to start seasons stronger. There is still plenty of reason to put these two teams together on the schedule unless something changes in NKY football.

The Highlands coaching staff felt the team would be best served by Drake playing cornerback and as you know, we don't play kids both ways. I think it's that simple. I doubt Drake feels he was "snubbed" by not playing running back from what I know of the young man, but if he does, he came to the wrong program. It's team first.

I would hope that the series continues but, Dixie needs to do a better job at giving HHS a game. You only get better by playing the best. However if the best constantly kicks your tush, the best may want to schedule better matchups.

Pike has to play with composure, not force the ball and take what he can get on every play. If he tries too hard to force big plays, then the picks will start and it is all over. If Pike can minimize turnovers, Dixie will keep this game closer than last year. That is as far as I am willing to go.

You just can't have your QB playing two ways in big boy football. Highlands wins this one

 

I see this, and then I watch the teams from Florida play, and their QBs are in the secondary. I don't know that to be completely true...way off base but there it is. Not a smart idea if you are relying on your QB to be a running/passing threat and therefore a huge focal point of your offense, and then ask him to lead the team in tackles from his MLB position.

I believe the better of the two "Bruns" running backs is still at Dixie. The last time I checked the stats anyhow.

I've been curious for some time but haven't received a good answer as to why Drake Bruns was snubbed as a running back when he transferred to Highlands. I hear the kid was a phenomenal running back as a freshman at Dixie. I know there are some that think he's better than what they currently have. Anyone know?
