To me though, a bad team is a bad team. If UK's going to play a sub par team they might as well play them at home and make some money IMO. I don't think playing some of the teams mentioned would do much for UK. I don't even think playing some of the better teams like UC would help them that much.

 

If they're going to play someone OOC, go and play Texas, Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, or someone like that. Now beating OSU at the 'Shoe and then winning 5 games in the SEC would help UK, along with 3 other non-conference wins obviously. But playing Iowa State...not so much IMO.

During football season, I suppose I'm just a scared, unambitious fan for not caring if UK, who has had 8 winning seasons in my lifetime, doesn't add a BCS opponent to the OOC schedule. (Never mind that 4 of those have happened in the last 4 years, and a fan might just think we're on the right course.)

 

However, during basketball season, I become an irrational, unrealistic fan for expecting UK, who has won 7 National Championships, to consistently put an elite product on the court.

 

Go figure.

 

In any case, if UK is ready to turn the corner, we should see it this year. The schedule shapes up nicely, with this week's game at Florida being the only one on the schedule that would really surprise me to see UK win. If we can't get it done, we'll only be left to wonder what might if been if we'd played Missouri (or Illinois) instead of Akron.

Looks like the people in Madison don't think Austin Peay prepares the Badgers for next week's game with Michigan State.

UK scheduled Charleston Southern, Western KY, and Akron and still managed six wins.

 

As a UK fan, are you really happy with six wins and a trip to either Birmingham or Detroit? I looked back through the thread and didn't see anyone post that they were happy with a 6-6 record and a chance to play in a bowl in Birmingham.

 

Until Kentucky takes bolder steps with their program, you can expect more frustrating outcomes like today.

 

If you read the Kentucky/Tennessee update and game thread, you are seeing something that is very dangerous for a first year coach to endure -- fan apathy. We saw the empty seats at the Vandy game. It's time for UK to get bold and try and get better or else there will be more trips to the 6-6 Bowl in Birmingham in the future.

I can't fathom how a Miami of Ohio team can play Florida close for three quarters and Kentucky can't. UAB took Tennessee to double overtime and Kentucky won't beat them. Jacksonville State won at Ole Miss, but UK is likely to go there and lose. Do these teams prepare better than UK? I can't wrap my head around this one.

I agree.

In the SEC this year Kentucky beat Vandy (who didn't) and SC. The victory over the Gamecocks was the highlight of the year. Other than that the typical UK football season. It's a basketball school.

I think that's probably true for this season but ultimately they need to replace one of the three non-conference games with a similar team from one of the BCS conferences.

I disagree with UK needing to schedule up. I believe the Cats are at their pinnacle right now and need to keep doing the bare minimum the NCAA requires to be bowl eligible. Had they scheduled up this year that would have amounted to more losses plain and simple. UK is the type of team that year in, year out, will win one game they shouldn't and lose 2 they shouldn't. I'm content with that, and I have come to realize that the schedule has little to do with losing to UT 26 straight times and UF 24 straight, until they prove they can compete with those teams they need to keep using smoke and mirrors to give the appearance of a progressing program while doing the bare minimum to get to a bowl...

UK replacing one of the cupcakes with a tough opponent would only do one thing............. make it where we wouldn't go to a bowl at all.
