I'm of the mindset that if UK had scheduled tougher this year they wouldn't be in a bowl game.

UK replacing one of the cupcakes with a tough opponent would only do one thing............. make it where we wouldn't go to a bowl at all.

 

You've got people right now saying they shouldn't be going to a bowl and fan support isn't expected to be great whereever they go this year. Which is it? They've made their bowl game and people still aren't happy.

Because there's a chance that replacing a decent BCS team (not a world-beater) would have better prepared them for Ole Miss or Mississippi State -- two games they actually should have won and that is keeping them from a mid-level bowl.

I disagree with UK needing to schedule up. I believe the Cats are at their pinnacle right now and need to keep doing the bare minimum the NCAA requires to be bowl eligible. Had they scheduled up this year that would have amounted to more losses plain and simple. UK is the type of team that year in, year out, will win one game they shouldn't and lose 2 they shouldn't. I'm content with that, and I have come to realize that the schedule has little to do with losing to UT 26 straight times and UF 24 straight, until they prove they can compete with those teams they need to keep using smoke and mirrors to give the appearance of a progressing program while doing the bare minimum to get to a bowl...

But you don't make a bowl and all the support UK has built up the last few years slowly starts to fade away. Not making a bowl in any season over the next three would be a huge set back for UK IMO. They need consistency, which they can posssibly build on in the future.

I think the patches of empty seats at the Vanderbilt game and the fan apathy you read on here is evidence the support is already starting to fade away. I'm just tired of the passiveness that is UK football. Whether it be the playcalling, the personnel moves, or the scheduling. If Joker and Mitch are serious about elevating the level of the program, it's time for some bold moves. At the start of this thread, there were throes of people just happy with 7-5 and making a bowl. Go read the UK Bowl thread and you have the majority saying UK doesn't need to be in a bowl. Which is it?

 

It's interesting that everyone was cracking on the SEC's schedule against OOC earlier in the thread. Yet, other mid-level SEC teams are scheduling up in the coming years. All except for Operation When.

I hope that I am wrong but as I said before imo Kentucky football will never be above a middle of the road at best SEC football team. I like to see UK in bowl games myself but lets look at this season for example, had UK scheduled up then they may not, no, they wouldn't have had 6 wins and wouldn't be considered for a bowl game. Besides, imo 6-6 doesn't deserve a bowl game in the first place. Rewarding mediocrity, to me anyway, is letting alot of people feel better about themselves and their team. .500 to me is not a winning season and if you're not above .500 then you've had a losing season and going to post season with a loser's record is embarrassing.

I personally have mixed feelings on the scheduling. One way of thinking is that the SEC is pleny tough and other big time opposition is not needed. Another, is to schedule tougher and it will get them more ready for SEC teams.

Should UK go with the latter then administration and fans should just accept the fact that a bowl game every season is just not going to happen and they probably would go without a bowl game more often than getting a bowl game. JMO

 

I will personally support UK no matter what they do, that's bc I am a Kentucky fan and the way it is with real fans. Heck yes I want to win and I do not accept losing at all but I don't base me being a fan on whether UK wins or loses. Winning is much more fun though.

 

(btw- before someone brings up that I am an OSU Buckeye football fan, I am. I feel that I can support/be a fan of more than one team. I can multi task:D. UK comes first and always will)

All the big boy schools in other conferences as well as the sec have at least 2 and most have 3 games that are gift games. Why should UK who needs all the wins they can get be any different?

Kentucky isn't a "big boy" school in the conference and if they keep scheduling MAC teams and D-II teams, they never will be

I think Louisville will become that "tough" non conference game for Ky. in the next few years provided the Cards do not have as coaching change. From a fan perspective I think it would be more enjoyable to see Ky. vs even a Minnesota, Duke or a military academy rather than the steady stream of bad MAC schools and non Div I schools. With playing in the SEC there is no reason to schedule Oregon or a USC, or an Ohio State..............but wouldn't a Duke football series be more interesting?????

I don't think you get my point. Every school out there has at least 2 or 3 easy games including UK. Why should they load up when everyone else doesn't do it?

Some of the MAC schools could beat Duke.

Yes....................but from a "fan" perspective it would create more interest. And some MAC schools can beat UK...............

 

And trust me UK is NOT playing the top MAC schools
