Maybe I'm a softee but posts like the above are too much. I have zero doubt the kid is doing what he's told to and playing hard. To label him as "a problem" is over the top especially knowing kids read this board.

 

Say you think that the qb position needs to get better. Say you're curious as to how the backup compares. The "problem" part is too much IMO.

 

I did not label him as a problem....said it is a "problem area"-totally different. I am also sorry to say that for every fifteen seconds when folks say you shouldn't say this or that about a coach or the refs or the players becuase they read this-then what the heck is the post board for. I do think you are way too soft on this point.

I missed it, sorry. What did you see from him in the HHS game?

 

The backup came out to lead the team on a drive in the second half. He took the team downfield behind a running attack that surprisingly got yards by the chunk, then threw a very nice pass for about a 15-20 yard TD on his first drive. So everyone sits up in their chair and says here we go. Unfortunately, the next drive he came out and missed on 2 or 3 throws and the drive ended very quickly. Just the sort of up and down performance you get with an inexperienced varsity QB, similar to what we are seeing with the starter who is also inexperienced at the varsity level. Following that drive, the starter came back in and did a nice job throwing the ball the rest of the game. Personally, I think competition is healthy. Both these guys know it is a close call between them with the senior getting the edge but they both know that they have to get the job done to hold onto the job. Hopefully they both keep keep getting better. We know they will both put in the effort it takes so the job won't be decided for lack of effort by either QB. The results on the field will determine who gets the most reps. If the offense is not moving, the backup is going to get another chance to win the job in a game. He needs to make the most of any opportunity he gets.

I'm not so sure there will be another chance, VoR. After Friday, there won't be high-level competition like BW has seen each week until the final game of the season. At that point, it will probably be too late to insert an unseasoned QB, but, I'm just an observer and you seem much more up-to-speed on the whole BW situation--so you are probably right.

Sorry about that. It was the Dixie game. I think both QB's will get reps during the district games and probably in the early playoff games as well, so there will be enough in game action to see what each QB's strengths and weaknesses are.

I would like to see that #2 quarterback more on defense, possibly at defensive end or OLB.

How can you judge the starter against Highlands? Every time he dropped back he was under pressure and had no time to throw to me the problem may be more the O line than anything. Regardless of who beechwood has at qb the tigers would still be 1-2.

Just surprised by the few comments about this game.

 

I think there were more comments/post prior to the Beechwood vs CovCath baseball District seeding game, than this football game.

 

What has happened?

 

To me, the big question for this game is: Can Beechwood put together enough long drives, using the clock, to keep the CovCath "O" off the field, as I don't think Beechwood can win a track meet with CovCath this season!

Well, they striped the lot in the new Krogers this week. If they would allow parking there, things would be just like previous years. But that is a long shot to be sure. I doubt they will allow parking with the construction still in progress. If the Krogers lot is still off limits, then it will be a mess. For the Dixie game, the Beechwood Swim Club lot (yeah, yeah, I know...but this is the truth) was half full 30 minutes before kickoff because there wasn't any parking anywhere else. If we get a good Beechwood/CCH crowd, parking will be ugly if the Krogers lot is still closed.

If Beechwood can score 24 on Highlands at Highlands I don’t see why they couldn’t put up 28 on Cov-Cath. I’m not saying it’s going to happen but if they can put 24 on Highlands who had a mix of starters and reserves playing I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility. Covington Catholic get’s better every game and every practice they play. At the end of the year I think they will surprise some people with there overall record. I think the real question in this game is how the Beechwood defense especially up front will match up with Cov-Cath’s o-line and running game.
