If You're Walt Jocketty....

and the opportunity presents itself, do you put in a claim on Manny Ramirez?

I know we've had discussion on here about people wanting to add him when Bruce and Stubbs were struggling, and most agreed it'd be a bad move, but would you do it in order to block the likes of San Diego or Atlanta from potentially acquiring him? Odds are they aren't going to just let him go, and the Reds probably wouldn't be willing to part with anyone to acquire him.

Thoughts?

It would mean ever fewer at bats for Heinsey and Nix, which strengthens my argument

Seriously, why not.

See that's not where I'm going at all with this....I'm saying, should they put in a claim, knowing the Dodgers are very unlikely to let just let him go, with no intentions of actually acquiring him...

Sure. You dont want one of your potential playoff opponents to get stronger. Just like someone did with Adam Dunn

How much is he owed if LA just lets him go? If it's a lot or he has an option for next year I say no way.

I know Jocketty has no interest in Damon, but I think most would agree he's an upgrade in LF.

Since Manny has lost his favorite milk shake stand. He seems to have a hard time staying healthy.

Red Sox claimed Damon today. They have 48 hours to make a deal. And the Tigers could pull Damon back if they dont like the offer

Damon can exercise his no trade clause according to Jason Beck on Twitter. He says Damon is not sure if he wants to accept a trade to the Red Sox.

Quite simply, no.

It's an upgrade and keeps rivals from getting him. Playoff experience etc. It is definatly intriguing IMO.

No way in the world would I get Manny. Too much of a circus suppounding him.
