Trigg Co @ Oboro Catholic predictions

Featured Replies

On point 1, it doesn't take a dominating line when you pass the ball 25-35 times a game and 400 yds a game is good, but, alot of that comes via big plays and not lining down and dominating in the trenches..My reference to struggling was Owensboro Sr and only 7 pts, however, wasnt aware of the 9 turnovers, but, also, Apollo wasn't exactly dominated..

On point 2, I disagree, with exception to OC, there isn't anyone else very good, in District 1, Caldwell, Heath,Lone Oak and Webster offer more competition than a Monroe or Glasgow does...

On point 3, South Spencer isn't always a state contender..They've had better years, yes, but, this year, got put out in 2nd round of playoffs by +20 pts, finished 8-4 and never made a top 10 appearance in 2a, so, a 28-20 win, although not bad, also, isn't that good...

On point 4, by this time of the season, everyone has 11 games under there belt and for the most part, the starters on all these teams got significant playing time last year and possibly the year before, so, a couple or 3 extra games shouldn't really matter..

Bottom Line Catholic won with less talent. They had tough.... tough.... kids.

If Catholic gets in Trigg Co. heads like they always do then Catholic wins. Trigg Co. their fans and coaches on any first down thought they should get a ring for every first down they got. I mean dang... I remeber visually seeing coaches going ballistic and fans falling from the stands on any first downs or 3 yard runs. I guess they ran out of gas because that #32 had negative yards rushing in the second half. What does that tell you about the Catholic program? I say it is a standard for all of Region 1 especially over the last 3yrs.

Especially when people go ballistic for any positive yard. It is one thing to be excited but dang falling down in the stands and coaches going ballistic for every carry. No wander they can't get past the second round they are probably telling their kids great run great run and forgot to call a play.

Trigg County (Cadiz, KY) vs. Owensboro Catholic (Owensboro, KY) projection: Owensboro Catholic 33-31

But ... Owensboro Catholic also had a Division I quarterback running the offense and some tough, hardnosed receivers. It isn't like the Aces were lacking in talent.

I don't think Trigg is quite as good as last year ... Owensboro Catholic 26, Trigg County 21.

I realize the receivers were good last year and I may sound crazy but I think this group is better at OC across the board. Taller and Faster for sure.

There is no doubt in my mind that we are better across the board. Last year was mainly the Barnard to Wright and Randoph show. This year there are many more weapons.

Time will tell how good this team really is....

On point (1)- Catholic dominated Apollo. It was one of the better games we have played IMO. By the way that is the same Apollo team that just walked on Marshall Co. Also Catholic can and does line it up punch you in the mouth and dominate the trenches. Look at the rushing stats, averaging nearly 200 yards on the ground per game.

(2) I would say that Monroe and caldwell are fairly evenly matched, see this past weekend. I went to every game of the aces this year and Edmonson and Glasgow were better teams than Heath. If I had to say these districts are even.

(3)South Spencer lost in the third round, sectional finals. They beat Tell City in the first round 29-27 and North Knox in the second 41-6. Catholic also lead 28-7 in the South Spencer game but the rebels scored late to make it appear close.

(4) I agree with point 4

I don't think Catholic got into Trigg's heads as much as several calls made by the officials. A lot of Trigg people thought they crossed the goal line right before halftime in 2003. If they score, it's 21-7 and Trigg gets the ball to start the second half. Coach Lawson at the time called that play the game changer. I never saw any angle that definitively showed McGee crossing the goal line.

Last year when Bowlds recovered the fumble in the end zone on the bad punt snap, one official blew his whistle and (erroneously) signaled a touchback before Bowlds landed on the football.

There was also a bad spot on a fourth down run by Trigg in the second half that OCath scored immediately after. I do remember the bad spot and it was horrific.

I'm not saying that's the reason Trigg lost but I'm sure they would like to pick up the same breaks OCath seems to get at home. Maybe that's why they were "ballistic" on the sidelines.

And #32 had 21 yards in the second half last year (not negative) and finished with 158 for the game.

The Heath team you saw wasn't the same bunch that played most of the season. QB Clint Tilford (a UK baseball signee) broke his left hand against Caldwell, had surgery and was out for the rest of the season. Tilford is a good athlete that can run and throw, and his replacement was a sophomore with no varsity experience.

With Tilford, the Pirates were much better than the team that limped into the playoffs. Without him, they never would have made the playoffs.

Truth be told, neither district is very strong, and once you get past the big three (Fort Campbell, Owensboro Catholic and Trigg) there isn't a whole lot of difference. But District 1 has two of the three, and that makes them better.

I am just saying what the Messenger had on him(-6) in 2nd half.

Catholic had some bad calls. One was a "Unsportsmanlike call" on Heath Wright- He clearly leaped in the endzone when two players for Trigg were within two yards behind him. That is not taunting. If he was 30 yards away from them that is taunting. The lady ref made a bad call 15 seconds after the play. There were several crappy holding calls that put Catholic back on 3rd and long. Championship teams overcome bad calls. That is why they Trigg and Ft.Campbell don't make it over the hump. When things go bad they are not disciplined enough to overcome it.

I am a real old guy, but I've been watching football for many years, especially Catholic,in my opinion this bunch at Catholic is probably the best bunch of kids they have had in many years. Not so much as great atheletes but team players, they get down by 10 @ Glasgow ,no problem they come back and score 48, in a hurry. It not only takes talent but it takes mindset. These guys believe the can do it everytime, as the old saying goes "give me a guy with a good attitude and I will show you a guy that is a winner".

I can agree with that.

Wouldn't you think a state championship somewhere, anywhere along the way would be a better standard for all of Rgn 1...About the only consistent state contender year in and year out in Region 1 is Mayfield, bar none and not even close and it's programs been doing it alot longer than the last 3-4 years..Hopkinsvilles been good, as well, but, 0 state championships, like OC just don't set well for a region standard setter, so to speak...

When you say championship teams, you mean district and region championship right? I seem to recall the past few 2A championship trophies going to Belfry and Breathitt County, and except for last year, never coming close to heading to Owensboro. That's a pretty bold statement coming from a program that has as many state championship football trophies as Casey Co. and Edmonson Co.
