Trigg Co @ Oboro Catholic predictions

Featured Replies

When you say championship teams, you mean district and region championship right? I seem to recall the past few 2A championship trophies going to Belfry and Breathitt County, and except for last year, never coming close to heading to Owensboro. That's a pretty bold statement coming from a program that has as many state championship football trophies as Casey Co. and Edmonson Co.

Fletch if you and WildcatJack can read I said over the last 3yrs. I do not recall Ft.Campbell or Trigg County winning the Region championship. The last time either of those two teams played for a Region Championship was in 2001.

You are right it is State Championships that should be the standard. Again, I said the region in 2A right now. Remember you have to win the region before you can win state. Catholic has none, but I think they have the right attitude about football right now. Their fan support is second to none. I am not comparing it to any Louisville schools, but there are several teams that want to play Catholic just because they will bring 2,000 people on the road. Go to Rash Stadium in Owensboro Friday. You will understand and know what I am talking about.

Catholic does have a solid O-line and everyone knows that is where the game is won. That is what concerns the Trigg Fans. If O'Cath's line gets rolling it could be a long night..

Your exactly right....If they can get Woody some time he will pick the D apart.

This game will come down to the same thing it has the last two years -- the big play.

Last year, OCath scored on the botched punt in the first quarter and the 61-yard pass to Wright that gave them the lead for good.

Two years ago it was the big pass to Lanham and the option to Riney that went for 50+ yards.

Last year, OCath didn't run on Trigg (81 yards on 25 carries) and Trigg's run defense appears improved this year.

The game will come down to big plays and turnovers. If OCath breaks open some plays and creates turnovers, they will win for a third straight year.

If Trigg doesn't give up the big play and doesn't turn the football over -- playing like they did against Fort Campbell in other words -- Trigg will come away from Rash Stadium with the win.

Either way, it will be the best 2A game in the state this week.

I will say this Catholic has the POTENTIAL to run on them this year. Last year's line was young and now that they are all back they are much improved too.

I stand corrected.. Ft.Campbell played Catholic in 2003. When was the last time Trigg/Ft.Campbell won a region championship? That is a long drought for two football tradition programs. Glasgow went to the Championship in 1999 and in 2000 so it had to be before 1999.

There were several crappy holding calls that put Catholic back on 3rd and long.

Catholic had one holding penalty called on them last year, which put them deep in their own territory to start the second half. I do agree on the bad UC call, but the penalties have not evened out in the past two years.

One thing Catholic did last year they can't do this year is put the football on the ground. They fumbled three times last year and were fortunate to recover all three. They likely won't be as fortunate to recover three again this year.

You are correct. I saw Catholic play a game (Owensboro) and they put the ball on the ground 11 times and lost 5 of them. They threw 4 picks that game too and only lost 19-7. I thought they got shafted in 2001 down in Cadiz. That is just the great thing about being at home, but they refs are from another part of the state.

Since the Owensboro game they have done an excellent job holding on to the ball.

I just can not see Trigg scoring over 20 points. Least of all 4 trips to the endzone. Owensboro (4A) couldn't when Catholic gave it to them 9 times. Then Apollo (4A) couldn't who just defeated a solid Marshall Cty team in Round 1. If Trigg doesn't put up over 3 TDs I just don't see them winning. Because both Ds are solid and I would give the offensive advantage to OC.

Hopefully, Catholic got it out of their system against Owensboro. They turned the ball over something like 9-10 times. I thought the OC defense did a good job in that game. They turned the ball over 9-10 times and OHS could only come up with 19 points?

Good points. Trigg could score over 20 points. They certainly have the capability and athletes to do so. It is all contingent upon Catholic's ability to stop the big play. Catholic gave up 20 something against Edmonson and could not contain the passing game and big plays.

My concern is not the pass game of Trigg, I believe we can contain that. My big concern is stopping their run game. The Aces can't afford to miss the number of tackles they did against Heath.

Overall, the Catholic D is going to have to have a big game. Offensively, Catholic is going to score points. I think opposing defenses know that Catholic is more than capable of scoring based on their offensive style. The question is: Can the OC defense shut out or hold Trigg to lesser points than what the offense can score?
