The Reds are: Astros: 7-2 Braves: 2-3 Brewers: 4-1 Cardinals: 5-10 Cubs: 10-3 Dbacks: 2-0 Dodgers: 3-3 Giants: 2-2 Marlins: 5-2 Mets: 4-2 Nationals: 4-3 Padres: 1-2 Phillies: 2-5 (4 losses in last AB) Pirates: 8-5 Rockies: 2-1 (Played Rockies when they were hot). The above accounts for 105 games (we've played 120). We're 8-7 in Interleague play, which accounts for the other 15 games. Of the above listed teams, Atlanta (2-3) & San Diego (1-2) are leading their divisions. Philly, St. Louis, San Fran, Colorado & Los Angeles all have a shot at the wildcard (some better than others). The Reds are 17-26 against those teams. 9 of those 26 losses have been 1 run losses. 4 of the 5 losses to Philly came in the last AB. 1 of the 2 (1 run losses) to ATL came by giving up 8 runs in 1 inning. If the Reds are a fraud, wouldn't the Cards be a fraud? They play a very similar schedule. August 19, 201016 yr I don't think you can argue. They're going to be playing good teams in the playoffs, and as he states, they have a losing record against those teams. And, his point about having an ace is correct as well. I would just point out that you never know in baseball when a pitcher or two can get hot and carry you in the post-season. If they can make the playoffs, they've got a chance. They just aren't going to be a favorite.

I'm not saying he deserves to be our #1, but if the Reds are going to make a run IN the playoffs, he needs to step up over the next month or so and establish himself as a lights out, top of the rotation type of pitcher.

Do you get "extra points" for beating the good teams??? So if we are beating the teams we are supposed (the weaker teams) to beat that means the Cardinals are losing more of the games against teams they are "supposed" to beat... I understand the argument that you are going to have to face the stronger teams in the post season, but really the Cardinals are the only team that the Reds have a reasonable shot at seeing in October that they have been overmatched by. The Braves, Dodgers, Giants, and Padres have played the Reds pretty even. Anything can happen in a seven game series. 1990 the Reds were given no shot either.
August 19, 201016 yr He is not saying they are not a playoff team. He's saying they're like UC football making a BCS game. I'm assuing he thinks they have a weak division to rack up wins in? Funny how the Cards are getting a pass for not beating those same teams. There's one really good division in all of MLB, maybe two.

August 19, 201016 yr Author I really think he's letting St Louis off the hook. He said they are beating meatballs as well but a)they've had better success against good teams and b)they have 2 REALLY good pitchers.
