He says they're a good team but the fraud term comes from his belief that they're a first place team with no chance of winning the WS. He cites their lack of an ace (or two) and how important that is in a short series.

 

I can certainly understand his argument and even he concedes that anything is possible but , essentially, they're the MLB version of the UC Bearcats as they were dominating either the Big East in football least year or when they were dominating b-ball while in C-USA.

Interesting points. I'll just enjoy the fact that the club is in 1st place going into the 3rd week of August. I'll be thrilled if they make the post season.

The only reason I disagree is because, realistically, there are only 2-3 teams that truly have a chance to win the World Series. Plus, I don't know too many Reds fans that are saying the Reds are going to be World Champs. He does bring up a good point that they have a losing record against most 1st and 2nd place teams.

 

I certainly don't buy the argument of, "You have been irrelevant for the last 20 years." All organizations go through those funks. If ownership and management was the same then that may be an argument.

He's right. The Reds haven't been successful against the best teams. I'm just happy to be in the race with a chance to go to the playoffs. Would I love a World Series? Of course. Do I think they're going to win one? No. We can beat the Diamonbacks, Cubs, Astros, Brewers, all year but I just don't think they can hang with the Yankees, Rays, Red Sox, Rangers, etc. from the AL if they were even fortunate enough to make it to a World Series.

His major reason was that they haven't beaten the good teams and says the Rangers are in the same boat. He did qualify it with the fact that in his opinion the Rangers were less of a fraud than the Reds.

I meant that Votto is the only one on the team that Cowherd is giving credit to. I don't think we can classify him as "great" yet.

For one, it doesn't matter who you beat as long as you beat em.

 

Two, He states the Reds have one good player Votto. He gives no love to Brandon Phillips, the best fielding second baseman in the league.

 

He also talks about how the Reds benefit from GABP when he forgets to mention that the away record is 33/25 and some of their averages on the road are: Votto .338, Janish .321, Nix .312, Rolen .296, Cairo .289, Phillips .279.
