July 1, 201016 yr I know that the place I work have turned down people...MANY people for being over qualified...people who have worked in my industry for a decade or more. My question is this: How do we fault a person who was making 70K for turning down a $10/hr job? They are most likely putting kids through college, have mortgages, etc. $10/hr won't pay the bills. Shoot, $10 an hour won't pay MY bills and I'm done with the college thing and don't have a mortgage. Do those of you who eschew these people propose that they must simply sell the home, stop paying tuition? Do you know how many $10/hr job people are out of work and now live in transitional housing in homeless shelters with their young children? Do you know how many are out there that are making that wage and find their hours cut, were living modestly, but lost their homes and now live in homeless shelters? If you're interested in learning, I'm happy to introduce you to many. I'm personally acquainted with so many that it makes my heart hurt. And that's a third higher than minimum.
July 1, 201016 yr There are 5 applicants for every job in our country. Where do the other 4 people go to work, much less get a second job. There are not enough jobs to meet the demand anywhere. Can you name me one community that doesn't have enough workers for the jobs they have? Right here in Pike County, Ky., Mingo, Logan, Boone, and Wyoming County in WV. Massey, Consol, ICG, and a few more have more jobs than workers.....well they DID until President Obama and the EPA stopped issuing permits for coal mines............. Oh and those jobs were/are not $10 hr., they are $50-$100k jobs...........

You probably could if they were issuing permits for mountain top removal, and you might even be able to right now if you are willing to go underground, work 2-3rd shift, and are physically able to do the labor. Base pay surface and underground is about $16 an hour, but your going to get at least 20hrs OT every week. At one point Massey and a few others paid for your school and for you to go to school. The job my dad works at was getting ready to hire about 100 people, but a permit got held up..............

July 1, 201016 yr There are only 4 counties in WVA thathave less than 8% unemployment. 21 counties have 10.1% or higher 10 counties have over 9.1 Again, I would say that there are enough people right in your community to fill those jobs, Rockmom needs to stay at home.
July 1, 201016 yr Once again I said before Obama and the EPA pulled permits, I also know some are hiring underground. You can also pull all the graphs you want, 1-1.5 years ago around here if you were young(under 40) and able bodied and you didn't have a job in the mines it was because of drugs.

Close to $12 an hour. Paid vacation. Health Insurance. UE has to be somehwere lower than where people turn down those jobs. Sure it isn't ideal, but how can anything get better if people are better off turning down that job and collecting UE.
July 2, 201016 yr I'd guess 15-20% of those receiving unemployment could join the work force if they swallowed their "pride" and took the jobs that are available. Many say it could be late 2010 or even early 2011 before businesses will once again be adding 200,000 jobs in a month. The latest report on private sector hiring from payroll processor ADP was also worse than expected. The weak private sector job growth, coupled with the loss of more than 200,000 census jobs in June, has economists surveyed by Briefing.com forecasting an overall loss of about 100,000 jobs for June. The government will release those figures Friday. The unemployment rate is expected to rise to 9.8% from 9.7% in May.
