December 15, 201015 yr The debate of Daniels or Lacey is an interesting one, especially if it comes down to one or the other. I think last year haunted Kentucky fans in lack of shooting, so bringing in guys who can shoot are always going to be a priority. Since next years class is already compromised of the best wing in the class, most fans feel the class needs a two guard to be rounded out. Lacey is a deft three point shooter, and just a punishing scorer period. However, Daniels is an elite talent, and top 15 guy. IMO you have to take someone like that. Daniels can also score a little bit, and his ability to shoot from outside with his size make him someone who could be an asset to the team right now, a team without depth. Albeit being thrown to the wolves, I think a young Daniels could see clock for UK sometime this season if he indeed chooses Kentucky and enrolls in Jan.

December 15, 201015 yr Daniels is only enrolling early to get a jump on next season. I will be shocked to see him play this year no matter where he goes... If he's not planning on playing in college for 4 years and there is time available at whichever school he would pick do you think that could change?

December 15, 201015 yr COULD it change? Of course. Still highly unlikely... GT, could Daniels and Gilchrist coexist on the court, or would one be looking at playing behind the other and potentially Miller, Liggins as well?
December 15, 201015 yr Daniels is only enrolling early to get a jump on next season. I will be shocked to see him play this year no matter where he goes... That is what he wants to do. I have read a couple of things that have said Cal is..... A.) working on getting him to UK, then B.) talking him into playing this season. With the depth issues at Kentucky playing time would be available late into SEC play I would think. I know Deandre and his father have a problem with rushing into things and that the main reason for getting into school early is to get a leg up and not be lagging behind. IMO Daniels and his pops regret not reclassifying before school started, seems to be one of those I think I am ready types of things but I'm going to stay in school to make sure. Then once everything gets going you find out what you knew all along, that you are ready for the college game. I am under the assumption if he comes to Kentucky, he will play sometime this season. In no way do I see Cal letting talent like that sit on the bench (if available at UK) when you have Jon Hood and Stacey Poole both fighting for minutes. I understand him and his dad don't feel he is ready, and thats fine. BUT, I can't see Cal taking him without letting him know up front, I am more than likely going to need you this year. Now that could certainly not be the case, just my opinion based on things I have read. Obviously things can change, one big change that could make depth not so much of an issue is if Kanter gets cleared. If Daniels commits and Kanter does not get cleared, then I would think it would almost be a certainty he would play this season given UK's lack of depth and given Daniels length and athleticism. And from a can he do it standpoint. If Ramon Harris can come in late and get minutes, then Deandre Daniels should have no problem competing. I do find it refreshing though to see parents care enough about their kids to make sure they do whats best for them. Physically though, I think Daniels could handle playing college ball right now.
December 15, 201015 yr GT, could Daniels and Gilchrist coexist on the court, or would one be looking at playing behind the other and potentially Miller, Liggins as well? Gilchrist can coexist with anyone. Team first guy to the core. Numbers would be tight, but Daniels is too talented to sit so he would see plenty of clock...

Ok thanks I just wasn't sure if their games were suited to be on the floor at the same time or if Lacey might be the better fit with Glichrist already signed. Sounds like a great talent that no one would want to miss out on though.
December 15, 201015 yr G..... I am assuming you have got to see Daniels a few times in person. All I have to go on is what I read and watch whatever videos I can find, no actual game films or anything. Is his outside shooting ability misleading from some of the videos or does he have a legit outside game?

Didn't see him enough to feel totally comfortable on an eval, but his shot is pure for a big wing. Like most he is still hot and cold, but the key is that the form is there...

Yeah form is a major factor for a lot of these raw guys still growing into their bodies. Usually with kids like that the talent is there but the technique is not. With the work he will get on a college level, his shot will only get better. But I just had to ask that. Some of the videos make him look like Larry Bird and I knew there was no way a kid that size could have the stroke of a Reggie Miller at that stage, but just wondering if he actually had a viable outside shot. I guess thats the glory of mixtapes though. I could get someone to film me playing pickup and edit it enough to make me look like I got stroke. Nice to know his shot is there from time to time, not a bad asset to have when your 6'7''/6'8'' and long.
December 15, 201015 yr Author Would not be surprised if Daniels came to UK and Cal talked him into playing. Calipari could walk along the beach in the summer and find a way to sell cups of coffee.
December 15, 201015 yr I don't think Daniels would be able to bang down low this year if he did play during the spring semester. I'm sure the kid is talented but has virtually no weight on him at this point and would best be served in a weight room getting stronger as well as eating right so as to put on some muscle. I just don't think he would be any kind of force inside at this time. Just save him for next year if he does indeed commit and from what GT has said, it looks like that will be the case where ever he decides to go.

Daniels or Lacey if you have to choose one & you're inheriting UK's 2011-12 roster? Seems that Daniels is probably the better player, but perhaps Lacey a better fit for next year's team? And this is for anyone: Isn't there a possibility we lose a scholarship b/c of Daniel Orton?
December 15, 201015 yr I'm not claiming to have a profound eye for talent but Daniels looks far superior to Lacey. I like his frame, and his J work..
