There is no way I mortgage the Reds future for Cliff Lee. Haha yeah right after he said that Lee threw a complete game shutout against the Reds. I would make Alonzo the center piece of the trade. He is regarded as the Reds top prospect by many scouts. I would put Heisey in the deal too because the M's need bats. I would put in Bailey or Wood whichever they want more. They would probably need one or two more players but that is where I would at least start the discussions.

As far as Lee I agree w/ you that he's more likely to throw a complete game or complete game shutout than anyone the Reds have. He pitched a long time in the AL. He was obviosly dominant in the NL and in the postseason. He would immediately become the Reds ace and match up well w/ any pitcher they could face the rest of the year.

If the Reds could do a "sign & trade" we'd have a different story, though. If I knew Lee would be here for 2 full seasons after this one, I'd be willing to trade Alonso & Bailey for him tomorrow. I'd also throw in a lower level pitcher, or potentially even a better prospect. The reality of it all is that Lee is, IMO, unlikely to re-sign with Cincinnati. With Harang's $2 M buyout, it could be worth it (and do-able). Still, it's unlikely.

A real shot a the play-off's, and all the increased revenue this year and next that goes with that, for a slight increase in payroll for three months - while losing no one that has proven they can be a better than average player in the Major leagues? I do not feel that Baily has proven he can any more than Wood, Leclure, or any of the other young guys have
