June 3, 201016 yr I find it suspicious that Griffey rarely missed playing time in Seattle (except for a broken wrist in 1995) while being a part of a clubhouse that included admitted steroid users Segui, A-Rod, Glenallen Hill, Ryan Franklin and Brett Boone along with several other suspected users such as Jay Buhner. Once he gets to Cincy and away from the Seattle clubhouse -- POOF! He cant stay healthy, his power numbers arent the same (6 of his final 7 seasons in Seattle had 40 + HRs. He hit 40+ in Cincy his first year and that's it), and he never stole more than six bases in a season after leaving Seattle. I just find his post-Seattle numbers suspect, given the culture of steroids in the Seattle clubhouse during those seasons. :thumb: :thumb:

I'd probably move him ahead of Mantle into 4th. I did not realize that the only other centerfielder to have 10 or more Golden Glove awards AND hit over 500 HRs was Mays. Junior hit well over 600 HRs. He is one of the all time greats and deservedly will be a first ballot HOF selection.

June 3, 201016 yr Truly a sad day, I grew up watching baseball and Griffey was my alltime favorite, I can remember the joy when he signed with the Reds even though it didnt work out the best for him. He was a great player that will not be tarnished from the steroid era.

And I assume Bonds played in a lot less games than Griffey did during his four year stretch. Just looked for Bonds from '01 - '04 73/137/.328 46/110/.370 45/90/.341 45/101/.362 I also bet Bonds drew 5x the amount of BBs as Griffey during that stretch. June 3, 201016 yr Should have probably happened after last year and his succesful return to Seattle, but a great career nonetheless. Even with all the injuries, he was still one of the greats and will take his proper place in Cooperstown in 5 years. Glad to see him finally hang up the spikes should have been five or more years ago, although he was a great player it was longer than one year overdue. He was not very polite to the kids at the ballpark or in public either (in cincy) , acted as if he was having no fun at all when he got to cincy.

June 3, 201016 yr Bonds is a cheater. Bonds cheated just as I feel a few hundred others have cheated the past 20 years to get a competitive advantage in a dirty sport. We have no idea who did and who did not cheat. I do not think Jr. did anything, but it would not shock me if he did. Scribe brings up some valid points. Part of playing during this time period comes the cloudy skies of the steroid era, so I am not going to pick and choose who I think deserves to be where based upon them getting caught or not. All I know is whether Bonds was cheating or not, he was hitting at a freakishly high level and was the most feared batter over a 4 year span I have ever witnessed, and it is not even close.
