Aric Russell is new Campbell County Coach

It's seldom popular when a coach tries to bring discipline to an undisciplined program (ask any kid coming out of boot camp) as Coach Code did, but it works!! Parents, like players come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and temperments. If there's a prevalent attitude among them (parents) in HS sports, its that they frequently think their kid is better than he/she is; especially in their early years in a program, as they were often among the best on their teams coming through grade/middle school. When reality sets in, it can be tough to deal with parentally; and often becomes "the Coach's fault"!!

Regarding Newport, while I agree it can sometimes be more challenging coaching an inner city school; Newport is seldom devoid of talent. Last year's group of seniors had some very talented players, that had formed the heart of their varsity team since they were freshmen, and had been pointing to last year all along. DeMarko was a huge and welcome edition, but don't think there wasn't some talent already at Newport. It's still there, the challenge is getting kids out for the team, and keeping them interested; and if AFI is right about three new seniors coming out this year, then maybe the same could be said about Campbell??

Your right about parents thinking there kids are better than they are and blaming the coach. I am not saying that discipline is a bad thing at all. I am just saying that a lot of the players (including a senior that played a ton last year and had no reason to be upset with playing time) did not like the things that were said to them. I was not there so I do not know what was all said. BUT, I do know where there is smoke there is fire and if the players are not happy then you will not be around long because no matter what, the athletes are the most important component of the program.

Newport had some talent last year, but compared to the rest of the state, they were not very talented. They played hard and together. But Newport has not exactly been the mecca (sp?) of talent for NKY in recent years. All I am saying is that Coach Russell will have a much easier time at Campbell, with exception of an administration that runs coaches out at the blink on an eye!! Should be a fun season though.

So if success is measured by Championships, all but 1 team every year is unsuccessful. That's hard! I agree that you play to win the game, however, success by any program has to be measured against what talent is available.

I'm having a feeling that the "True Shepherd" has been reincarnated. Just a feeling????

I do not know who "True Shepherd" is, but if you read what I write, I am not putting down anyone at all. All I am saying is that Campbell County has not been as successful as it should be. It took them 41 years to win another regional tournament and they havent won a district tourney since 2002. Thats all I am saying. I think you are being way too sensitive about the situation. This is simply my opinion, just as you have yours. Coaches and teams are measured by championships. It may not be fair but thats how it is. I am not the one who created that stigma, so do not blame me. I think you need to read my posts, I am not putting anyone down, I am giving an unbiasis opinion on a situation that I am on the outside looking in and basing it on what I have heard from people involved. Im just saying Coach Russell will be a good fit for the program and hes bringing in fresh guys to help I have heard. Like I said, Its just my opinion, I do not get on this to take jabs at people behind a computer, just have good conversation about sports.

But Kash....I used to shop with Maybelle at your store....Kash's Big Bargain barn.....They are all either grads or coached at Campbell so just retreading dude

I like alot of what you have to say Kash, but I disagree with the bolded comment. I think the school is the most important aspect of a program, not the individual kids or coaches, and this is where I think high school sports by and large has gotten off of the tracks. A wise coach told me if you have 15 kids on a team-5 will like you alot-the starters. The next 5 in will think you are okay, and the last five will feel that you are the dumbest coach of all-time. If you can convince the middle 5 to come over to with the group of starters, you will have good team.

I agree with you on that. The school is very important, which is why the program at CCHS is the way it is now, so great point on that and I stand corrected.

Riverdog, even if they are former coaches or graduates, they are still a fresh start for the program. They were all successful at the high school and college level as players I believe and I think they will get the respect of the players immediately.

No sensitivity Mr. Kash??? Just giving my understanding of your posts. My opinion is that you are incorrect on alot of your assumptions.

That is fine that you think that, BUT the fact is, I think what I am saying is right by what I know. No sensitivity? I am confused by that comment because it makes no sense what so ever. If your going to try to rebuttal my argument, atleast make an argument with something behind it. Try to change my opinion. Not make me repeat myself to try to make you understand.

I do believe he was 16 and 11 without demarko the year before, although dermarko was a big help to the team but players like Cody, Casey, Boo, and Brandon Sizemore working out all summer and really improving was just as big as demarko coming. Not sure if there is one player can have a 13 win turn around, but he was a big part of what all these kids did.

Has coach Russel chosen the balance of his staff. I'm sure they would like to be around after the dead period ends.

From what I hear, the only open position is the freshman head coach. All others have been chosen.

argh

You are correct - the Camel incoming class is strong. I have had the pleassure to watch them play and also have the pleasure to see the Brossart incoming class play. That Brossart class has incredible talent / potential not to mention they have a soph of their own that ain't to bad either. I believe the Brossart group is in same summer league at Mt Zion where Camels are playing without Wood but Brossart without Rieger and Verst. I am hearing good things what that Brossart group is doing in that league without a couple of their stronger players. A lot can change over next couple of years but even though the Camel class is strong I think they still have some catching up to do. They might pull it off...Will be fun to watch

Did Maddy, Enzweiler and Geiman get invited back?

Good coaches, the program can use them.

I hear they are all out. Maybe they can bring back Bradshaw

You are correct both classes are very strong but Verst puts Brossart over the edge. Strong kid with a great set of skills. I really enjoy watching him play. From what I understand he is equally as strong on the BB Diamond
