I believe that scripture supports the death penalty . . . eye for an eye, etc., much of the scripture (see Genesis 9:6) is found in the old testament. But the principle is found in the new testament as well. Look at Anninias and Sapphira . . . for just keeping a promised portion of their profits from God---they were killed. So, in my opinion, there are crimes worthy of the death penalty. People who say that two wrongs don't make a right (murdering someone that murders) are carelessly equating the act of committing murder with the act of punishing the murderer. But, once again, if you do not believe that scripture is the final authority you will not agree with my position nor will we have common ground on which to base a discussion.

Let me add, I do agree with Obama (I will wait for both of you to get back up off the ground and back into your chair......................................................................) that more social programs for CHILDREN need to be done to help mothers. One difference is that I think those programs need to come from local and national churches and NOT the government.

 

The church is supposed to be the answer to society's problems NOT government. Or at least, that is my view of how Christianity is supposed to work. Jesus and His Church is supposed to be the answer, not Obama and his government.

 

But the church is not answering the call, so are we to just wait around until it quits harping on sex, drinking, and cussing and begins "taking care of he least of these?"

If Obama said that he could open a business and not allow white people into it because it will be a private business he would be skewered and people would try to impeach him. Rand Paul may get elected for those same beliefs.

I've always liked the notion of the church taking care of its flock, but I also believe that it's same sort of utopianism that the right constantly accuses the left of supporting. I just don't think it will ever happen. I do believe that most churches around the country are doing the best they can with what they have. I also question the effectiveness of church-run programs simply because of the number of people not affiliated with organized religion these days. It's at least troublesome.

 

It would be interesting to see what churches would be capable of if they got as big a cut of everyone's paycheck as Uncle Sam did.

Because we gauge birthdays by the day they're born. I'd bet your friends wouldn't think their child was any less alive while still in the womb. Ask them and let me know what their opinion is.

But it wasn't "a week past his birthday." It was "his FIRST week of LIFE." It's simply an interesting choice of words, ones that wouldn't have seemed out of the ordinary, had it not been for the discussion in this thread.

No. I am asking because in this case abortion is an American issue pertaining to this discussion.

 

Let me add, I applaud anyone who has the heart and desire to adopt a kid regardless of race, nationality, class, etc. Offering any kid a happy home with parents is a beautiful thing. Offering a kid a better upbringing than they may have had with their original parents makes it even better.

Did he say that specifically, no. Did he say they the right to fundamentally, yes. Forgive me for trying to give an example that everyone can use to follow along. Twist it how you want but thinly veiled racist comments that are "taken out of context" are always what they are at face value to this black man. And this is a black man who doesn't think everyone who disagrees with Obama isn't racist....you're just most likely republican.
