What I am talking about is a specific situation where a player who was NOT on the SS-KY team (McFarland) roster for the entire season, but was conveniently brought in to capture a state championship. The kid was part of the SS family, but from OH. I have no dog in this fight, but you can decide for yourself if you think this is ethical or not. I could care less. As far as I am concerned, beat who is on the court as long as eligibility requirements (age) are satisfied. I think the SS program is a good one, but they do like to pad their accomplishments on their website. It is what it is.

 

In that situation, I believe that team had injured, sick, or missing players who were just as good as the replacement. Tate Nichols had a broken foot. They had to add a player because of that. I think they only had 8 players for the tournament. The kid from Ohio was a contributor but by no means carried that team in that tournament by himself. McDaniels, Gabbard, Earls, and Popp all had good tournaments. Gabbard, Earls, and Popp led the scoring in the championship game for the SS-KY McFarland team.

 

Like it or not, this type of thing happens all of the time, and in this situation, it was perfectly legal.

I think many people are forgetting about the Royal Family. This team is tough. Many of these guys played for the Louisville Legends in a few tournaments last summer. This team has all kinds of talent. Many people are calling favorites, I like the NKY Bulldogs, SS-Kentucky, and SS-Davis. However, I wouldnt count out Royal Family by any stretch.

 

Charlotte Court is always a solid team also and I havent seen their name mentioned once. They have some really nice players and their coach is a stand-up, knowledgeable coach. I dont know that I'd look for them to win, but they could make some noise. WKY Elite is the same way. Boy, Josh Forrest is a really versatile player. I am guessing he will be in uniform even with the verbal to UK for football. If so, they have a chance to beat some teams.

 

Should be a great state tournament in the 17's. I can't wait to watch it all unfold.

I agree with this. "Like it or not," is a good statement as long as everything is legal. I am an advocate of following the rules, but if the rules allow players from different grades or states, then everyone has the opportunity for the same advantage. No complaints there. Get out and go pick up the players you want for your team, within the rules.

I agree with this. There is no doubt that the SSS teams are loaded with good talent, and a few nice coaches. But, the website isn't always updated with a loss. The wins usually tend to make it on the website though. I have noticed this. No big deal as it's just a website and sometimes they are a lot to maintain. But, i can see where you are coming from w th the "padding".

 

That is a ridiculous statement. Each of our coaches are responsible for posting their scores. Some are missing and have not been reported. Some coaches are better than others at getting them up but not one of them is posting only wins and not recording losses. The team that was mentioned earlier is missing a whole tournament of scores. Wins and losses. What team have you noticed padding their record?? I don't believe that is the case with any of our teams.

 

I do wish that our coaches would do a better job of getting everything up. A lot of people visit the website and I would love to have all of the information up to date and correct. But I don't believe for one second that any of our coaches are padding their records.

If you truly believe that Tate Nichols is equal to Jake Davis on the bb court, then all I can say is wow. Jake Davis is an outstanding bb player and was on the A team for SS last season. Jake is a much better bb player than Tate in all situations. Not sure why you would want to diminish his contributions to help them win the state championship, he was a very big part of that weekend run. I never said it wasn't legal, all I said was that SS teams move players around to help them win certain tournaments. No big deal. Just an observation.
