State AAU Tourney

Featured Replies

Something I have witnessed is the s3 group bringing in "ringers" for the state tournament from some of their OH teams. I guess it's legal, whatever it take to win.

who are some of the non-roster ringers you speak of?

Not sure which SSS teams you are talking about, but some of their Ohio teams do have some KY kids, and some of their KY teams have some Ohio kids. You are allowed a number of out of state players, and the state they live in has to boarder the state of the team they are playing for. For the most part the SSS teams I know of most of the teams are set around March with very little changes, some changes happen when a player wants to change teams for whatever reason.

I will say that some of their team pages are misleading, such as their 17U White team. 7-1 record? I know they at least lost one in the Bearcat Classic, and that they lost to Team KY in Dayton Ohio a week later.

Just check Sheehan's roster. The Truth used 3 illegal players last year in the state tournament. Also, don't sleep on The Royal Family. They are tough and they have Jackson from Iroquois. Fucci will be a huge addition to SSS-Davis. Shotwell and Gilbert have things working well on DSAS/Truth as well. It should be a fun weekend for sure...wish we still had the boys together!

Not sure what you mean by very little changes? What I am talking about is a specific situation where a player who was NOT on the SS-KY team (McFarland) roster for the entire season, but was conveniently brought in to capture a state championship. The kid was part of the SS family, but from OH. I have no dog in this fight, but you can decide for yourself if you think this is ethical or not. I could care less. As far as I am concerned, beat who is on the court as long as eligibility requirements (age) are satisfied. I think the SS program is a good one, but they do like to pad their accomplishments on their website. It is what it is.

?? If so, then why didn't the state tourney catch it?

Illegal players in AAU hoops say it isn't so. At the end of the day who cares at the 15 and up levels. Should be some awesome games this weekend.

I beleive this was caught. I don't know exactly what happened, but I remember last year that the Truth was forced to forfeit a game or two.

The state tourny is no different than any other AAU tournament. The roster you enter before the start of the tournament is the roster that you play with. (grade exceptions and cross boundry rules do apply) I beleive this number is three per team. That being said, bringing in players is completely legal. I would say that the biggest complaint should come from the permanent players on the respective teams. IMO.

Sports Guy, you are right about the white teams record. The scores from the Dayton tournament have not been posted by the coach. But it wasn't done to be misleading. Some of my coaches have not posted all of their scores. For example the Black team has only posted 2 scores so far. They are one of the better teams we have but the coach hasn't taken the time to post scores.

Like everyone else we want to go into the state tournament with the best roster possible. The reallity of AAU basketball is that your roster goes through a lot of changes during the season. Kids come and go because of proms, family, injury and changing teams. It would be really nice to be able to go through an entire AAU season with one group of kids but it doesn't happen very often.

Roman Empire is talking about when we moved a player from one of our Ohio teams to play with McFarland in the state tournament a couple of years ago. Was that done to improve our chances of winning? Of course it was. That player also played the July NCAA schedule with Coach McFarland because he improved the chances of our kids competing. We are trying to put the best teams together that we possibly can just like everyone else.

We move a lot of kids around when we get to the July schedule. A lot of kids have football that starts up and are unable to play during the July evaluation period. We may combine teams, move players around or make additions to give our teams the ability to play through the NCAA evalution process. We believe this to be one of the advantages of having a lot of teams in the orginization.

Another reason you see a lot of kids added to rosters at the state tournament is becuase of baseball and soccer. Players like Ryan Fucci have been playing baseball most of the spring and will be playing for the first time this weekend. Fucci is a great player and will be a great addition for Coach Davis.

I expect a lot of teams will make additions for this weekends state tournament. I want to see the best of the best. It should be a great weekend of basketball. Good luck to everyone!!

For the record, I didn't mean to come across that is was being done to mislead on purpose, just that going by a website is misleading. :thumb:

The Truth had all those players quit after pool play last year when parents found out they were in a 16U group. 2 were juniors and 1 senior. The comment about who cares at the 15 and up level is that there are rules. It's nice when all play by them. Be better.

No grade exception rule exists for 15U - 17U. Your entire team could be grade exceptions.

I agree with this. There is no doubt that the SSS teams are loaded with good talent, and a few nice coaches. But, the website isn't always updated with a loss. The wins usually tend to make it on the website though. I have noticed this. No big deal as it's just a website and sometimes they are a lot to maintain. But, i can see where you are coming from w th the "padding".
