Indiana residents attending Jefferson County Public Schools?

Featured Replies

So why isn't the Diocese of Covington and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati leading the charge against the OHSAA to allow students from KY be able to participate in Ohio? Matter of fact, the Superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Covington called it a non issue. Why? Protecting their own NorKY turf? A great swimmer could forget about CovCath and go to Cincy St. X and really make a difference? Where is the energy to make that option available? If it is just as viable for Indianna residents to play in KY athletic association events then why does the Diocese of Covington not show the same focus to make such available for those to play in Ohio?
Huh? In NKY and Southern Ohio there are so many Catholic High Schools that crossing state lines is not a factor . At least not in this day and age as it was 40 years ago when I was in school . I think there were 4 kids from My Catholic grade school in Bellevue that went to St X. in Cincinnati and from what I recall only one played sports there (Football). What is the Cathoilc high School Option In Southern Indiana near Louisville now? What is the Catholic high school option for Central Ky now?

Providence, in either New Albany or Clarksville, I can't remember which.

Not too far from downtown Louisville, actually, and Co-ed. There is no single-sex private school option though. In addition, a great deal of former Kentuckians who attended private schools here in Louisville, now live in Southern Indiana.

What is the Cathoilc high School Option In Southern Indiana near Louisville now?
Providence, which is in Clarksville. Providence went 4-6 this year but usually finishes above the .500 mark. This year, they beat Waggener but lost a close game to Holy Cross and also lost to South Oldham.

Brilliant minds think alike!

I agree. Student athletes should be allowed to go to the best school to further their academic and athletic acheivements! It should not matter if they cross the river.

Probably because such lobbying would likely be a colossal waste of time.
Everything across the river from Louisville is technically in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. But it would be virtually impossible (and certainly not economically feasible) for said student to attend a Catholic high school in Indianapolis. Therefore, to continue his Catholic high school education, there should be no problem whatsoever in his attending either T or X. Or DeSales or Holy Cross for that matter.

That would be a good argument but there is a good catholic school that is getting rapped by X and T and the enrollment is going down so much so that they may have to shut down, But I guess it is ok to close another whole catholic school as long as T and X win a couple of Kentucky state championships with IN kids. The school is called Providence and is only 10 minutes from downtown Louisville. And the "catholic Church recognizes lines at the river, the louisville chuches cant tell an IN church how to opperate and vise versa, just like the a jefferson county school cant tell the oldham county school how to. But the KHSAA cant get into religion, SO MY QUESTION IS, shouldnt the Catholic schools' who Archbishop and who is the their leader who has his so called districts step up and follow the leadership and set up and at least restrict the enrollment to the archdiocese of louisville????????? take upon themselves to do as their own church leaders do. Public Khsaa cant touch religion or be sued. Heck look at the south oldham kid who the khsaa punished him and the whole football program for playing a player who's address was in jefferson county. well what is fair for one is fair for all. So should not T and X be punished the same way????? why Can they take and play kids outside of their county and South oldham cant. But according to all the private schools the public schools can take kids from other counties , they just have to pay a fee, so what is the difference...... The difference is this the Khsaa says the kid can go to an out of county school but cant play for them if it is a public school. So why do X and T get to do it?????? But I am just another public school whinner. :D

Pete, that's not even right. There aren't even that many on either team, to consider them the reason a school would win a championship. Besides, I thought that according to Tony Branch, they "belonged" to Jeffersonville High School anyway.

As to the rest of your post...the CATHOLIC SCHOOLS PROPOSED LIMITING BOUNDARIES AND DEFINING A FEEDER SYSTEM...but there's evidently a stumbling block that has come up when the Catholic schools want players coming out of Catholic schools that choose private schools to sit out their freshman year, just as players coming out of the public schools into the Catholic schools would have to.

Evidently, the only perspective to be considered here are the public schools.

So I guess you admitting that the are comeing across the river to play sports, because providence football went 4-5. Well if T and X didnt take their best kids maybe they would be 10-0. But earlier it was about the religious choice and since of community. So if Providence was 10 - 0 and won the ind state championship the good athletes should stay and would stay over there, but because they are not it is ok for them to come on over. That is a real acdemic goal, so kids dont go to T and X for the Acdemics but because they win in sports. Oh am sorry because their mom and dad went to school over here and moved, I would like to see the numbers on all the kids from outside jefferson county who attend X andT and who parents went there. Bet there are more kids whoattend outside Jeff. county who parents didnt.

No...I'm not admitting that. There aren't even that many IN residents in the private schools in KY. You're being bitter and stretching the facts to fit your agenda. There are a lot of reasons one chooses a Catholic High School for their child....some are: Religious, sense of community, AND TRADITION. Your post is indicative of the kind of bias I speak of. I'd like to see the numbers of Catholic kids on Public school teams, who played for parish teams before choosing their high school. But, I guess the experience those players benefitted from doesn't matter. I mean, those kids BELONG to whatever public school they attend, correct?

Ya the boundaries they Propsed "20 miles" wouldnt have changed a thing, and by they way they made sure to include IN (For what reason I dont Know  ). And for freshmen who cares when is the last time a freshmen played Varsity, Hech the all mighty QB at Uof L didnt even play Varsity as a freshmen, so to me that is just a lame excuss for the privates to overt the real issues. What about the South oldham kid??????? You seem to pick and choose what you want to reply too. Does not the catholic leader in the church Draw bondaries???????????? Yes they do, So should Not T and X do so, And for your Statement it is just a few kids and it does not effect championships //// / for that I have two questions 1. I guess losing T starting running back would not efferct them???? 2. If it is not that many and it does not effect them than why doesnt T and X just say Ok we will stop going across the river????? IF IT TRULY IS NOT THAT MANY KIDS AND DOES NOT EFFECT THEM, so just stay in kentucky, but the leaders of T and X must not think that way or they would have said "it is just a few kids so we will stay in KY. And if they did we probaly would not be having these discussions.

I don't even know where to begin to reply to such vitrol!

I choose to answer the salient points, and sometimes those aren't the specific line-by-line words you posted. We HAVE played with out the starting running back, and yes, it did affect us. However, if you feel that if we didn't have that running back, we wouldn't be successful you're wrong...dead wrong. Our team functions just as any other. When a key part of the offense is suddenly missing, adjustments must be made. But, if that piece hadn't been there to begin with, we'd have a different key piece, just as any other team. Where would Manual's team be if Tim Horton played for Fern Creek or Seneca?

As to why Trinity and X won't say they'll stop going across the river, well, we never said we wouldn't. The fact that Proposal 20 was voted on FIRST overshadows the actual preceeding proposals, which if ratified, would have eliminated the NEED for Proposal 20. You're conveniently overlooking the fact that the Private schools DID offer compromise, by agreeing to define feeder systems, and imposing the 20 mile boundary. You say not much would change, and you are correct. The fact of the matter is not much would change for your school either, right?

As to the South Oldham situation, I don't know enough about it to respond with any integrity, therefore I choose to NOT respond. To appease you, I'll delve into it more deeply, and try to respond if it's still relevant to the topic at a later date.

I never said losing a RB wont hurt, Point is your RB should be playing for a IN school, and my school never had a chance to get him. What to say if Coach Nichols or Manual went acroos the River and He along with some other T and X players Just might have choosen to go to Manual, because usally those players arnt catholic so they are going to T and X for the great academics and Manual would be able to compete there :D . BUT THE FACT IS MANUAL DOES NOT HAVE THAT CHANCE OR ANY OTHER PUBLIC SCHOOL,, THUS HE GOES TO T OR X and becaomes a starter that public schools have to stop from getting yards. Name a kid that any public school can get that a catholic school cannot!!!!! you cant but I can name a bunch of kids that Private schools can get that a public school cant, and all they can do is think "Man I wish that Kid Could have played On my Team" THUS again back to the main point. You have to admitt that T and X can OPENLY go across the river, where public schools are not allowed to even think about talent across the river. What is good for one has to good for the other. Private says everything is fair how it is now. Public want a little change and see the difference.

I wish X had Horton, Henderson or Jackson(which by the way has a brother that played at X and went to a catholic school) but they don't. If Manual had so much to offer there would be kids crossing the River or county to get it. It is a good school at the top of the pole but average at the bottom. The kids can get the same as Manual at New Albany or Floyd Central. Great Arts programs and several scholars to show off. Maybe Providence dosen't have what X and Trinity have to offer and the kids want that.

Again...for the THIRD TIME IN AS MANY POSTS....If the Proposals 1-3 had been voted upon first, and ratified...WOULD WE BE HAVING THIS DISCUSSION?

Funny you mention what is good for one is good for the other, yet the Public schools feel that a child who's attended K-8 in a Catholic grade school should not have to sit out a year if they choose a Public high school, but that a public school 8th grader should have to if they choose a Private high school.

You AGAIN are ignoring the points I'm making about:

1) The order the proposals were voted

2) The issues each of the first proposals would have addressed

3) The unwillingness of the public schools to have the EXACT limitations that they want the private schools to follow

As to kids that public schools can get that private schools can't? Well, I can name a whole roster of them....all whom either did not want to attend a private high school for whatever reason, or felt the cost of the private school tuition was not worth the experience.

I guess you think it's much easier for us to draw students from public schools to private schools than it is for public schools to draw from Catholic schools.
