Stayton's hit in the first was really an error. The ball glanced off the glove of the left fielder. I was sitting on first base side and it should have been caught. JMHO. Also, I believe BW had 4 hits not three. I was obviously rooting for BW. CCH returned the favor in the (not sure what inning but the second run) with an error on the catchers throw to 2nd on the steal. Fun game to watch.

Very true.

Interesting that Johnson started instead of Bertke and that Bertke did not pitch at all. Great job by Johnson. The offense just couldn't get the runs needed to win.

Four hits is indeed correct for Beechwood, as the E-8 was the ball muffed after the base hit that allowed the runner to move to third instead of keeping him at second base. This allowed the runner on first to steal second and then the E-2 allowed the runner from third to score!

 

Stayton Hit: Honestly I thought the ball should have been caught but even one of Beechwood own told me he thought it was a hit, as from our angle I/we honestly thought he didn't touch the ball. The young man attacked the ball (IMO) incorrectly by taking a bad angle as that ball was moving in the opposite direction of his going after the ball and from my/our spot it looked like the ball just handcuffed him.

Part of the fun and charm of baseball is sitting in the stands and guessing what a coach may do, or second guessing what a coach just did. Were any of the Tiger fans surprised that Meyerhoff chose to pitch to Stayton; (LH clean-up hitter, RH pitcher) when there were men on 2nd and 3rd with no out, first base open, in the bottom of the 7th?

I didn't know that. Great job by the Tigers. My prayers are with the Myerhoff family. Coach Myerhoff is a great coach and a better man.

 

As for the game, great win by CCH. Adam Warning is tough. Looks like May 13th, CCH @ HC is going to be a huge game.

Questioning the coach's move?? ... it only happens to every coach in every game.

No one was on the bag at third as I recall, as the third baseman, SS an LF were converging on the play. I know Coach Meryerhoff was not a happy camper after that play.

 

From what I saw the third baseman was covering but the runner saw that it was going ot fall so he took off toward third and when the LF picked up the ball there was no play

Yep - I totally agree with you on that, but some people as you know get called out when they question the coach for the team they cheer for!
