you guys can be sarcastic, I'm not. It was a fair question that everyone at the game was asking. I wasn't taking a shot at Coach M, it was a sincere question; is this a strategy that he may typically employ, or was his logic specific to that batter, pitcher, situation, etc.?

It was a fair question. As to his logic, you would have to ask him. I am sure he had a reason for it. And there could be a lot of good reasons for pitching to Stayton ... last year as TOG commented, who were the batters behind Stayton, what is best for that pitcher, ability to pitch around the hitter with a base open and hopefully get him out on a bad pitch. There are more little reasons and almost every decision in a baseball game is like that - good reason on both sides for making moves. If the move the coach decides on works, everyone thinks genius. It it doesn't, the questions begin.

I agree that it was a decision that deserved to be question. My sarcasm is directed at the folks who get on me everytime I question the some of the decisions that some of the coach's at CCH make. Because of the past success they have had I think some feel that they should not be challenged/questioned. I do not agree with that opinion.

Different coach similar situation. I ask this very thing of a NewCath Coach many years back. The reasoning was this: He didn't want a young (in this case a sophmore relief) pitcher to have to be worried about walking in the winning run. He expected and wanted the opposing coach to try a squeeze play, with a power hitter at the plate.

 

BTW very similar result only difference is the kid hit a shot between Left and Center.
