No question. Defintley my favorite player of all time. I would like to see what he could do if not so injury prone.

Hard to say if all those guys stay with the same team all the way through. Lots of players do stuff like Willie Mays and hook on with another team at the tail end of their careers.

I'd say Mauer is almost a lock with his new deal. Wasn't it 10-12 years?

8 years, it ends after the 2018 season. With him being from Minnesota you would think that would make him a lock but who knows how he'll be performing in a few seasons. I'd have to think Mauer and Pujols would be the most likely to play their entire careers with their current teams.

I'd put J-Roll in that group as well. Now whether or not he's a HOF'er is the question with him.

I'll agree with everyone on Chipper, but not a big fan of his. Can't blame him for the Braves winning their division every year but not advancing.

This one may make a few of you think a little. Is Gary Sheffield a HOF'er?

 

There is a reason I bring him up in this thread. Sheffield's numbers are very similar and in many areas better than Chipper's. But I would guess many of you who think Chipper is a lock would pause and think about Sheffield. Perhaps that is due to Chipper staying in Atlanta and Sheffield being well traveled. Personally, I think they are both in.

Chipper has played 6 seasons less than Sheffield and has nearly matched or exceeded Sheffield's stats. That's why it is no question Chipper is a yes before Gary.

It isn't always about raw numbers. The position Jones plays will have an impact on his candidacy. Jones numbers are outstanding for a thirdbaseman, which is the position he played the majority of his games. Bagwell and Sheffield racked up the majority of their stats playing a corner outfield position and first base respectively--both positions known for their offense. I think all 3 players have a shot of getting in, but Jones probably has the best shot of getting in earlier in the voting process. The .300 average helps there as well.
