April 15, 201016 yr Author This thread is cracking me up! I'm glad to hear Wrigley is not the only strange pet in the world. Just this morning, I found my nightgown on the floor in front of the family room couch. Not harmed, just slightly damp from his mouth where he carried it in there and dropped it. Here's another thing, Wrigley knows when it is 3 pm. It is uncanny, but that is when he eats. He is fine at 2:30, but by 3 he is nuts. He is stomping around, tossing his head, pacing back and forth. If I'm busy with something, he will come and stand, unblinking, waiting for me. It doesn't matter if it is a weekend, break, school, summer, any time of the year--he knows when it is 3 pm. He even adjusts for the time changes, which I find so strange! He definitely has an internal clock.
April 15, 201016 yr No. Part Jack Russell, part Beagle, and, and our vet told us the other day, part Boxer. I have a chihuahua. That is why I thought you may becaue a lot of your dogs traits fit mine as well. Especially the one where goes potty and won't face you.
April 15, 201016 yr We have two dogs. The long haired dauschund is strange. She doesn't like to go outside in the daylight to do her business if somebody isn't with her. But, she will go out at night by herself. Very strange.
April 15, 201016 yr My dog is VERY quirky. He hates big dogs. He hates most men, especially men in uniform, tall men, men with deep voices, men wearing hats, men running.... He hates anyone on the other side of the fence or door. He knows when the mail man is due. He sits on top of the chair by the window at the same time every day and waits for him. He won't eat unless I'm at home. At home, he won't go outside to go to the bathroom unless I'm the one who lets him out. He doesn't go in the house, though. If he drops a piece of his food on the floor, he'll go back and eat that piece before he'll eat out of his bowl again. He hates rain if it's in the back yard. If we leave the house through the front door with his leash on, he'll go out with no problem. He hates when people touch me. He can't STAND it when people hug me. He goes crazy. He will not play with anything that I don't specifically give to him. He loves to watch basketball on TV He hates to have his feet touched. He won't walk in puddles. If anything is different on any of our walks, he balks. Once, after a windstorm, a tree was lying across the sidewalk and into street. He would NOT go around it. We had to turn around and go back the way we came. In the park, there are wooden bridges. When it snows, he won't go over the bridges. I have to carry him. He won't poop unless there is a clump of tall grass, a pile of leaves, or a small bush or plant to poop in. He deliberately turns his back on you when he's pooping, and if you walk around so that you're facing him, he'll turn around in a circle until his back is to you again. He loves my son's dog...until my son leaves the house and doesn't take his dog with him. Then, he doesn't like him at all. If we wake up before the alarm, or no alarm goes off, he knows he gets to go on a walk. If the alarm goes off, he knows there's no walk. Those are a few. He has many more. Could be worse. One very nice day I was in a hurry and forgot bags. Simba went on the sidwalk in front of Avalon...
April 15, 201016 yr Could be worse. One very nice day I was in a hurry and forgot bags. Simba went on the sidwalk in front of Avalon... Lucky would have been mortified if that had been his only option. He did take a big one right in front of the fire house next door one night. They hadn't cut their grass, and he went right up the drive, and took a big one right in their big grassy area while one of the firemen lounged in a lawn chair only feet away.
April 15, 201016 yr Our dog is four years old, and since he was very young when I get my keys off the counter he knows I'm leaving the house and will run to his cage/bed. Since I'm home the most I feed/care for him more than anyone, but when Mama gets home he follows her around like he is a little lamb, never follows me.
April 15, 201016 yr When I lived in Nashville several years ago, I had a cat named Bill. Bill was really cool but he had a habit of gathering stuff all over the apartment and piling it under my bed. Every week or so, I would check under my bed and would find various items in a neat pile, items such as socks, a pencil, paper towels, etc. One day when going to work, I opened the door to leave, and Bill ran out never to return. Bill went on to have a distinguished career as a pop icon and political gadfly, including presidential runs in 1984 and 1988 as part of the National Radical Meadow Party. This isn't the most flattering image, but perhaps is the most representative of one Bill The Cat.
April 15, 201016 yr I don't have any pets, but I've always loved dogs and get along well with most of them. But I can't stand the types that do that loopy spinning thing. Dogs entertaining themselves by chasing their tail is funny; the high-speed, out-of-control spinning thing is beyond annoying.
April 23, 201016 yr My wife and I HAD an undercabinet trash can where the cabinet facing attached to the pull out can. But, it didn't close completely. One night we thought it would be ok to leave the two younger dogs (who are usually crated when we leave) in the house uncrated for a couple of hours. The other two dogs were in another room. The two young dogs are a 120 lb. Boxer/Rotweiler and a 70 pound Lab. When we came back the cabinet facing was laying in the floor, the pull out trash assembly was in pieces, and there was trash all over two rooms. OK, stupid us. I replaced the trash can with another pull out receptacle, but this time with a hinged cabinet door that closed completely. Sooo, we left the same two characters out again, thinking that they could not open the cabinet. We came home, there was trash ALL over the two rooms again, but the cabinet was closed, and the new pull out assembly was unharmed. We guess they figure out how to open the cabinet and pull out the bag?? Took a lot of skill!
April 24, 201016 yr Reading some of your all's responses has reminded me of many more my dog, Jack, has. When we give him dog food that has pieces of different shapes he will sort all the pieces by shape and then eat them one shape at a time. He knows my dad's work schedule and when it is time for my dad to get home he will sit at the top of the stairs waiting for him. If anything changes (i.e. a new work schedule or an appointment after work) that keeps my dad from being home "on time", Jack will still not move from his perch. To add onto the last one, Jack knows which days are my dads off days and will be waiting by his leash so he can take a walk to the corner store to get coffee. If any of us are sitting in the dining room computer chair you can bet that Jack has jumped up into our lap to sleep. He won't pay any attention to the TV (barring animals being on screen) unless SportsCenter is on and then he is sitting there concentrated on what is being shown. Any time he goes to go #2 he will spin around quickly in a circle 6-10 times before doing his business. If me or my brothers get into a wrestling match or any physical confrontation, Jack will attack whoever started it.
April 24, 201016 yr I have been home for about a month with an injured back/surgery. During this time, our inside dog seems to have known that I was injured. When I got up from my chair in the living room, he follows me to the bathroom, sits outside the door while I am in there and then walks in front of me back to the living room. Wherever I might go in the house, he goes with me. Like he is staying with me to make sure I am okay. Even when the rest of the family is home, he does the same thing.
April 25, 201016 yr I have a similar quirk with my dog and dirty laundry. He usually goes for the dirty laundry, but any clothes at all intrigue him really. Like you, he doesn't chew them, but he likes to misplace them and lay on them/lick them. It's gross. He will also lick his front paws for about 5-10 minutes before he goes to sleep. Similar to the laundry. He has a thing for rearranging shoes. Anytime I take a shower, inevitably, when I get out of the shower, I will find my shoes thrown around the living room. Most often, when I open the door to the bathroom, I will find my flip flops in front of the bathroom door. It's kind of strange. He doesn't chew on them, he just moves them as if he's trying to say, "Hey, you'll need these when you get out of the shower." What kind of dog is this? We had one (Mastiff family) that was obsessed with licking her legs and paws.
April 25, 201016 yr Our dog bites his own nails. We never cut his nails, just have to smooth the rough and jagged edges.
April 25, 201016 yr I have a Brindle Boxer and I must say, she is probably the weirdest dog I've ever had. 1. When I first pour her dog food, she will always take bits and pieces out of it (with her mouth) drop them on the dining room floor and eat them there until the food is at a certain level. She will then eat out of the bowl. 2. She can be in a dead sleep in her cage or in the middle of the floor and she will get up and start pacing back and forth from one end of the house to the other. After doing this a couple times she will rub the side of her face in to the carpet with her rear end in the air. She will then roll around on the floor as if she's scratching her back, get up go back and forth one more time, and then go lay back down and fall back asleep. This is a daily routing, multiple times throughout the day. 3. She wakes me up every morning at the same time by taking deep breaths and making "snorting/snotting" sounds at the side of my bed. She will also lick her chops to make sure I can hear her. I guess this her way of letting me know she wants to go outside. 4. In her cage, she has a large dog bed as well as multiple covers over it. Before laying down, she will always "re-arrange" the blankets and spin in a few circles before laying down. 5. After doing her "business" outside while on a walk, she will then want to play and start tugging on the leash as if she's walking me. 6. Anytime she walks up to me or anyone else, she'll turn her rear end sideways while wagging her tail. Here's a few pictures:
April 25, 201016 yr Our darling dog "Dixie Belle" is such a smart dog. She also has some strange habits. She doesn't want anyone to watch her eat and she'll look around and if you are watching then she stops until you stop "looking at her". She will never eat out of her bowl from the place that you sit it down. She will move it around the yard a dozen hundred times before she actually eats. If someone gives her bread she will not eat it - she hides it. She has complete control of our carport. The carport has gravel on it and she has two dog houses and deck with carpet on it build and attached to one of her dog houses. She will take the bread and hide it in the gravel. If you looked at our carport you will see little piles of gravel all over it and in those piles are food that she has hidden. Last night during the storm MrRk looked out our bedroom window and he saw her standing at the garage door with her paws up on the door and her mouth over the knob of the door trying to get the door open. She is such a sweet sweet dog but she is the whinest little ball of fur you have ever seen.....why it's like MrRk has too wives:ohbrother::clap::lol:
