Kentucky doesn't "need" Teague. He'd be a great addition to any program, but Kentucky is in good enough shape with other high profile players that they can afford to miss on Teague & bring in someone else.

To fill out the roster. Kid is a great high school player and could be productive at a smaller school but I just don't see him being a factor on the D1 level, let alone high D1. Hope I'm wrong though. :thumb:

No doubt a player of Teague's caliber is going to give that program a boost.

 

I think with the way Calipari recruits UK is usually going to have very good to excellent classes. So far he has put together two solid classes and is already on his way for a third.

 

Pitino needs something desperately. Their 2010 class is bottom third in the BE this year and he has said the 2011 class is possibly the best ever in UL history.

He needs a roll in recruiting. Teague is his guy. Look at all the connections to UL with Teague.

What I don't understand is if Teague is still undecided why set a deadline to make a decision by this Thursday. He's still got another year to make up his mind. Nothing wrong with not knowing where you want to attend college while you are still a Junior.

 

Of course that 2012 kid is supposed to decide tomorrow isn't he. Why the rush? It is a shame that these kids can't enjoy their youth. Just be a kid and worry about where to attend college your senior year like most other students do.

Of course Teague would be great. But the difference is if Teague does not come, the blow will be lessened when Kentucky lands the #2 or #3 PG in the class. I'm not sure Louisville is capable of doing that right now.

First, I believe you to be a very sensible poster, and I agree with you on a lot of things. Some of what you've said about this I agree with--Teague being the best PG, every team needs talent (especially when it's the caliber of Teague), & that whoever doesn't get Teague will be disappointed. I also agree that SOME UK faithful are trying to spin this, just in case Teague opts for UL or UC.

 

Of the three schools believed to be in serious consideration for Teague, I believe UL has the most to lose in not getting him. Pitino has publicly stated the 2011 class will be huge, but Chandler's de-commitment has raised eyebrows about that. And since Cal's arrival, he has dominated the recruiting battle in the bluegrass & largely nationwide. The commitments of Gilchrist, Knight, & Lamb only add to Cal's recruiting portfolio.

 

Pitino, on the other hand, has hit a rough patch, both professionally and personally. Landing Teague lightens the weight of the monkey on his back, while losing him to UC or UK (especially UK) only adds to it. Cal has positioned himself well with other recruits, namely Wroten, whose commitment could take the sting away (a bit) from not landing Teague. And then you consider that many have believed Teague to UL was a foregone conclusion, given all the built-in advantages Pitino possessed (family ties, namely), and it only adds to the pressure Pitino is facing to deliver.

 

The onus is more on Rick by not landing Teague than it is for Cal, and probably even Cronin. I would've said the same thing about Cal had Gilchrist opted for Villanova over UK.

I agree with the idea that Pitino has invested the most in Teague. But, UK has the founder of the PG factory, and that's worth a lot to these prestige recruits. Even though those kids (Wagner, Rose, Evans, Wall) were going to the NBA with or without Cal, he got them there in one year, and all are successful (assuming Wall will be). That's a great marketing ploy.

 

It's gonna be bad for whoever doesn't get him. It's comparable to losing an actual game at this point. It's bragging rights for the summer for one fanbase or another.

 

As for UofL's future, they still have a good 2011 class on paper, even without Teague. But they need him. I'm not denying that fact one bit. I'd say their plan B is a kid named Jabririe Hinds. They are also in on some other pretty good players in that class, aside from Chandler. I still wouldn't be surprised to see them make a run at Wroten. They've had success in Seattle in the past.

UofL is still in on some good 2011 players, and still have verbals from 3 top 100 kids right now, aside from Chandler who is a soft verbal and as good as gone IMO.

 

I only brought up the Justice thing because had he jumped to UK at Cals offer, UofL would of never heard the end of it. Since he didn't, no one has really talked about it much. Bottom line, Pitino kept him. Something I didn't honestly think he'd be able to do with Any instate kid from EKY.:lol:

If you asked me a week ago, I'd have said 100% yes. With all of the rumors swirling lately, I'm just going to make the trip to Pike on Thursday and see how it plays out...

Maybe he wants to build a roster with some guys who are not one and done. Apparently he will not be a NBA guy in 1 year adn we need to build some 3 and 4 year guys to keep the program going in the future. We cant just rely on 1 and done al lof the time. I dont think it is stupid. If he is good then CAl wil know ho to use him.

From what I know of the Teague family, once a decision is made it's final...

I think it's odd that UK is painting the picture that they don't "need" Teague. That's odd to me, UK hasn't exactly set the basketball world on fire the last decade. They need all the talent they can get too. I mean, the kid is the top pg prospect in the country. Everyone needs him.

 

Sounds to me that UK spinning the situation, trying to make it win/win. IMO, UK has just as much to lose as UofL. If he were to pick the Cards, that means Pitino would have beat them on Justice and Teague this spring.

 

That being said, Teague is a Wildcat IMO.

 

UK is going to have a good class regardless of Teague. He would be a great and maybe the best addition to the class, but if they don't get him they'll probably get another 5 star stud at PG.

 

I've heard many a few weeks ago pencilling Teague in as a future Cardinal. So losing him would be about like UK losing Gilchrist IMO, it would be bad news. If UK doesn't get him it's a guy that UK fans have felt they had a good chance at for about a month or so.
