However, while most agree it's tasty stuff, we can't agree on how to pronounce it. Some pronounce in "jai-ro" as in Gyroscope. This is the way I've always heard it pronounced at festivals such as Pikeville's Hillbilly Days. Others, pronounce "year-oh" - which is the way I've pronounced it since being corrected by a Greek man in D.C. when I was 14. And some say that it's pronounced "your-oh" as in Euro.

Since gyros are Greek creations, it's best to go with what the Greek fellow told you, since that's correct. Fortunately, I learned the correct way many years ago while attending the Panegyri Festival in Cincy.

April 1, 201016 yr I'm not a fan of the traditional gyro (year-o), but I love Mythos' supreme chicken gyro. I get one every other week. I believe they're at the Panegyri Festival every year.

The important question is, where at in Richmiond is this place?? :lol: Went there today and heard the owner correct a patron who had never eaten there before. The guy said, "I'll have a "jai-ro" and fries. The owner/cook replied "ok, you want a 'year-oh' and fries?" It's called Babylon and it's located on Main Street in downtown Richmond, just before you get to the courthouse. Not sure when they open in the mornings, but they're open until usually 10 PM every night. They also serve falafel and baba ghanoush among other things. Went there today and didn't specify that I wanted the lamb, so I got a beef gyro instead, didn't realize it until I got home. Still good, but the lamb is outta this world.
