If the producer of the product wants to do it, that is up to them.

I am still amazed that the government actually allows the sale/production of cigarettes.

I think it is absolutely the function of government - so there. The government is set up to "promote the general welfare".

 

For what its worth, there is NOTHING in the constitution that says the government should 'provide an atmosphere to operate a business' or 'protect the value of our money.'

 

There is nothing about capitalism or the free market in our constitution. Governments are actually set up to stem the tide of social/economic darwinism. Governments are set up to regulate people/businesses so that they don't infringe on my pursuit of my general welfare.

 

Therefore it can regulate things that harm us, or at the very least provide us enough information so that we can regulate ourselves and not be harmed by businesses.

Your general welfare definition is not what was intended by our Founding Fathers. Your Definition is modern day double-speak.

 

What about counterfeiters? What about Hamilton using the 'elastic clause' with the delegated powers of Congress to repay the government's war debts and create a national bank to stablize our currency? You cannot, in any sensible way, get a calorie count out of the 'elastic clause'.

 

While the the Constitution does not say capitalism it was created to foster an arena for people conducting business by providing for a stable currency, developing standards of weights and measures, regulating trade, borrowing money and collecting taxes. This is the general welfare that our Founding Fathers were talking about.

 

Once again, create an organization that will provide this info. This could be your personal community service project that government wants to force students to volunteer for, you could force them, oh thats volunteer, to help you.

I disagree. Many people due to health concerns have to make educated purchases every day concerning what they consume. Plus add the people that just want to make health conscience purchases every day. You have a great many that do look at that label and do make a purchase decision based on what is in or not in each item they purchase. To just say go look on line is a bit absurd. Personally I am a person that will quite often look at this information in a buying decision process. BTW, I have been in restaurant that do post nutritional values in their menus. I found it quite enlightening.

Lots of people do. Anyone that is concerned with nutritional values of food can do about two hours of research and know almost anything they need to know. I'm guessing those that can't, or not willing to do the research on their own are simply not concerned.

You still don't get... It will not raise the price of a Big Mac.. It will only cost the people who WANT the info... Not the company or the tax payer... The money you drop into the machine will cover ALL the cost...:thumb:

The Constitution of the United States provides for the building of post roads to carry the mail, to regulate and provide an atmosphere to ecncourage business. The Constitution also calls for a military to protect our nation. With these constitutional mandates a well developed system of transportation would be within the bounds of our federal government.

 

Build roads, yes. Make signs, no. I don't believe that our founding fathers had a lot of road signs to follow.

This reminds me of one of the times when Daisy would come in to the office and you could see Enos mesmerized by her, she would tell him some crazy story and get him to do what she wanted him to do. He would just blindly do what ever she asked, and without thinking about what she really was doing.

 

Then afterwards, he would awake from his "Daisy Stupor" and realize, "She lied to me". Poor Enos, it just always seemed that he woke up after the damage was done.

That's the question I've wondered about. Also,how much more will the proposed plan improve your health? How many people will truly change their purchase based on the information? I would love to see a poll on this just here on BGP.

 

BTW, I don't think it's proposed, I think it's law, isn't it?
