I simply love the KY High School Boys State Tournament. I like the underdogs. I love watching kids step up when they get on the big stage. Love watching the student sections. Nothing about it I don't like.

Plus I look forward to meeting a few BGP'ers face to face, like westsider whom I've never had the pleasure of meeting.

Anyone else geeked over heading to Rupp?

Would you be "geeked" if your boys drew another region? Serious question.

Corbin is one of eight high schools I cover. I'm a fan of overall high school basketball. I would be excited about Corbin playing the LA Lakers at state, it doesn't matter who they play, but geeked? Umm, no. Now if the Bengals made the super bowl, I would be geeked, a bit.

Always one of the best weeks out of the year. Sweet 16 games going on along with the first couple rounds of the NCAA tourny. Got to love March! :thumb:

Yup. Geeked out for sure. And when the season is over I even experience withdrawal. Tuesday night I watched or listened to as many of the 9 Regional championship games that were going on that night that I could find on the net. Sometimes with multiple players going simultaneously. Was disappointed when I couldn't find them all. Might not be able to make the trip to Rupp this year and the thought of that is driving me nuts. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if I break down at the last minute and end up there anyhow. If not, every game will be on the net on a delay and I'm sure that I will watch all of them. Still, there's nothing like being there.

Some of my greatest moments growing up are from the Sweet 16. Nothing was better than getting out of school and heading to Rupp with my father. Paul Andrews' shot to win the '82 title, the Henry Clay/Carlisle game in '83. Reggie Hanson and the Maroons taking the '86 title. Those Clay County teams, the '87 and '88 games against Ballard, Richie's 51 points. Fairdale's back to back with Turner, Morris and Brown leading the way. The Breckinridge machine with Critchelow and Mattingly starring. Lofton's 39 against Ballard, DeWalt's dominating performance, now those are great times. I hope to one day get the chance to take in the whole tournament again.

I like to mix a little horse racing with my hoops.

This year's set up is perfect. Both the 9th and 10th Region Champs play at night.

Keeneland (Simulcasting) - Wednesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon, Saturday afternoon (after morning games).

Rupp - Wednesday Night, Thursday Night, Friday Afternoon, Friday Night, and Saturday night.

Throw in a trip to Outback, Joseph Beth Bookseller, and Best Buy and you've got a wonderful week of hoops and horseracing. :thumb:

I started going to the State Tourny in 2000. I started going with my Grandma and Grandfather. What a great time I had me and my brother would both go with them. In 2003 my Grandfather passed away, that was the year that Mason Co won the State Tourny, he had been going for around 40 something years, he passed out earlier in the week at the State Tourny and missed the rest of the Tourny. My parents tried to pay a nurse and get someone to watch him over at the State Tourny but they couldn't. He had to listen or watch on TV as Mason Co won the State Tourny. He died a few days later on March 28, 2003. This will be my 11th straight state Tourny, I think of all the great memories that my grandfather and I had at Rupp. I love him and miss him and hopefully one day I catch his streak of around 40 State Tournys.

I've always been a football guy first and foremost, but we will make the trip to watch Mason County play on Thursday night in The Greatest Show in Hoops.
