Through the years, I have heard all the stories on Billy Hicks. I do not know him personally, but I do know he is an absolute basketball junkie.

 

Even as long as he has played and coached, while he could be tired of it by now, he has more of a passion for coaching, preparing, and scouting than other coaches he competes against. I have seen Billy Hicks at high school games so uninteresting that he is one of about 50 people in the gymnasium. He eats, sleeps, breathes the game.

 

I understand how he is a successful coach and I also understand why players and their families are moving into Scott County, Kentucky school district. It gives them an opportunity to play for a passionate coach, in a beautiful filled gymnasium, for a good team, with a strong possibility of playing at Rupp Arena for a state championship, and if you are good enough, the opportunity to be recognized by college coaches and have a chance at a college scholarship.

 

What is not to like about the Scott County basketball program?

OK, I'll play along. Yes, definately a Central fan, what tipped you off, the username ?

And don't worry about us we'll be just fine. With 4-5 Freshman on the floor most of the year, you're not going to see alot of wins playing in the 11th region, but you're going to get a lot of valuable experience, so look for them to be around strong the next couple of years. Not worried about Madison Central, nor did I say anything about them but since you got me started talking about them, they actually have an outstanding freshman point guard that will be one of the best in the state by the time he is a senior. That's good that they are home grown. :ohbrother:

I have absolutely no Scott County ties, but I will defend their basketball program, anyways.

 

Who wouldn't want to play basketball for Scott County?

They have a great tradition;

They have great facilities with a beautiful gymnasium to play in;

They have a good coach who prepares his players for the next level;

Many of their players have gotten college scholarships in basketball;

They have good players to play with and compete against in practice;

Their community greatly supports their team;

Georgetown is a good, growing community in which to live;

 

I could go on and on.

 

Bottom line is that if I had a son who showed great basketball potential, I would certainly consider living in Georgetown, Kentucky where my son could maximize his potential in an effort to become a college basketball prospect.

 

Billy Hicks has been accused of recruiting, but he does not have to recruit good players.......good players want to play at Scott County.

So while on this topic. Put yourself in Coach Hicks'/Scott County Position, talented student athletes move into your district....what would you do? Sit them? I would assume 99% of coaches would play the best 5 in the school building. I dont understand what the issue is...

Correct me i f I am wrong but 3 of the 5 you listed parents work other places. So your Toyota statement is WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! Why don't you learn your facts before you jump on these kids.

That isn't the issue.

 

In the eyes of some, the issue is the circumstances that led the five players to end up at Scott County within a year of each other ... coincidentally (or not), just as the program appeared ready to experience a dropoff in talent.

To answer your question, I say "YES".

 

It is about opportunity. I think it is fair to say that the players you mentioned, and other players like Rick Jones, Scott Hundley, etc. will have a better opportunity at Scott County than they had at their previous school to:

 

Play for a coach who had put numerous players in college basketball;

Play with more than 200 people in the stands;

Play in front of numerous college scouts;

Play in a Sweet Sixteen;

Earn a college scholarship.

 

It is all about opportunity and they have that to offer at Scott County.

Euton, Jackson and Guyn would have been seen by plenty of college recruiters, and the former Rose Hill kids would most likely have played in a Sweet 16 or two if they had stayed there.
