Kentucky Football Coaches Propose Change to Spring Football

Featured Replies

Also, about the baseball thing...doesn't baseball already get to play AAU or summer ball right after their season in the summer? I think they do!

The above statement from you is why I replied to you....

Congrats.

Have seen that regarding practice fields but not game fields....would think the mound would be an issue, not sure who that works.

Props to your coachs for sure....

Our football field and baseball outfield actually overlap, as do other 1A schools in our area. Football action wears down a field much worse than baseball action does. When the fall rains come, the best place to be is actually in the brick dust of the baseball field. Three seasons ago, we had no grass in August/early Sept and then the rains in late Sept/Oct turned it into a mud pit. We learned that you can't lay field stripes on water. :D
Sorry one more thing....someone is saying you can't have Fall Baseball, they KHSAA....

The arguement that baseball has fall leagues and summer doesn't apply....so when its Basketball tryouts high school coachs should just select thier teams based on how the players performed during their summer leagues...please agree the answer is NO....same regarding Baseball and summer teams and fall leagues...the High School coachs need to evaluate the guys trying out and the whole issues is having KHSAA approved Fall Baseball would help make the tryout process much better for all involved (players, coachs, etc.)

All sports have that problem, we all get 1 month to prepare. That's equal on all parts. We can't force kids out until July 15th, so we get a month to see who can play before our first game...it's all relative. Baseball chooses to cut, you don't have to have cuts. Keep them all and play the best kids, you still have 3 levels they can participate on. You can evaluate those kids during open field in the fall...you will have an idea who is and can play. Fall baseball wont help you evaluate the kids who play dual sports anyway...ue open field as an evaluation tool. That's what everybody else has to do.

Summer baseball (all-star teams, and I will use that term loosely) already cuts into July, the time that football is trying to get prepared. Football doesn't have a traveling football team in the spring or interfering with baseball. Too many kids are made to have to choose, adding more of this stuff will hurt high school sports and put kids in a tough situation that they don't have to be in. Just my two cents

Are you serious....Baseball doesn't have to cut? Come on man you are reaching and honestly showing your lack of "sports" education...you can't give instruction or even rule drills in Open Field, its against KHSAA rules...Spring Football coachs instruct, they install new O's and D schemes....players use school owned equipment....Open Field, not allow, again agianst the rules.

Your right Fall Baseball won't allow us to evaluate those guys playing fall sports....nor will Spring Football help those kids at all who are running track or playing baseball....your statement goes back to guys getting all defensive....adding Fall Baseball takes nothing away from Spring Football or football in general.

Lets talk about season because not sure you get it....Football according to you gets one month, prior to first game, then the get Aug., Sept., and part of Nov. (if they keep winning longer) to have practices, instruct and get their players/teams better....pretty sure unless something has changed still only playing one game a week which means a lot of practice time....then after the season you get Spring Football where again coachs instruct players.

Baseball because of cuts get about 2 1/2 weeks after tryouts before first game and with the main issue being weather at that time sometimes most if not all that time is spent in a gym where you can't take complete INF/OF or live BP (Pitcher throwing to a Hitter and players making plays)...once season starts typically have 4-5 games scheduled weekly, with concerns of arm injuries, on days off, honetly not awhole of instruction going on...thats the sport of baseball I get it....what you don't get is the need for Fall Baseball to help get ahead of Mother Nature and be ahead of the game.....

Tell me what your beef is against having Fall Baseball KHSAA approved if and as I suggested it doesn't take away from another sport?

dude why you taking this personal....it isn't meant to be

Congrats.
The biggest crime is how football lost the month of June. WHo cares about spring ball, give me June 7on7 back.

I agree. :thumb:

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought this thread was about proposed changes to spring football practice? Lets get back to discussing that. If anyone wants to discuss baseball practices please do so in the proper forum.

Spring break cuts in to that. Unless you change it to 4 weeks to get ten practices.

Days don't count unless in school.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

When will this proposal be voted upon?

Good question. I would love to know the answer to that, because these changes normally don't go into affect until the following year.

Im really surprised that the coach's just didn't ask that their be no limitations on practice. I say that we just stop Basketball Season, and Baseball Season, and lets only have year round football... It just seems to me like football coach's wine and cry more then any other high school coach's.

Football also makes more money than all other sports put together at most schools, so forgive us if we don't like to deal with all of the red tape we have to wade through in order to do our jobs right.

As with any sport or athlete the players that want the most out of their abilities will find a way to achieve their goals wether it be football, baseball or whatever. An extra 2 or 3 weeks in the spring or fall is not going to make a huge difference other than a little time for evalluation.
