Prayers with the Bishop Brossart Basketball Community

Featured Replies

Very tragic day for our entire community.

Mitch worked hard and played hard. He truly had the best interest of the kids at heart. He remained a friend of this coaching staff and this program, often sitting in on practices or chatting with the staff.

This is an incredible, totally unexpected loss.

Mitch's passing will leave a tremendous void. He was truly one of the really good guys in our profession.

Mitch was a coach with St. Mary for the last 7 years or so and gave selflessly of his time and talents. He was respected by those from other grade schools and we are so very saddened at the news. Prayers from the Bluejay family.

Mitch and I got to know each other through coaching against each other and through a mutual friend. We became great friends on and off the court. I got the news this morning at my desk and almost lost it. Mitch was a great coach and great person. I spoke to him last week before his team played in the diocesane tournament. He wanted a quick scouting report. He always wanted to make sure his boys were 110% prepared no matter what. And without thinking he'd always shoot me an email or send me a text to say good luck or see how things were going with my team.

Mitch and I were a lot alike and thats why we became close friends. We both came from great programs. We both love the game of the basketball. We enjoyed the kids we've got to work with and people we got to associate with. Basketball wasn't Mitch's life, but it was a very big part of it. I believe he was a member of BGP and enjoyed reading "hot topics". I always tried to nudge him into posting more, but he always said it wasn't for him.

For those that never got to meet Mitch Orth, they really missed out. He was a first class individual. A first class coach. A first class teammate. A great student. And one heck of a person!!

Im really going to miss you buddy!!!!

Very sad news. He was way to young. Prayers go out to him and his family!

I'm sure the Mustang fans appreciated the host Royals offering a moment of Silence for Mitch last night before the game. Also very nice of Skinny to talk about it in today's Enquirer.

This is very sad news, the Brossart community has had it very tough with the loss of Nathan Seiter and now Mitch Orth. I coached against Mitch and he seemed like a very devoted guy to his players. RIP

Terrible, terrible news.

This was an absolutely awful way to start the day yesterday...

Many, many people come and go in this world, but only a very rare few leave a lasting impression on everyone they come in contact with. Mitch was one of those rare few. He had just recently bought a house right across the street from me, and was all set to move in. I saw him two days ago, and like always, he had the big smile on his face and was just loving life.

Mitchell, you"ll always be remembered and never forgotten. We miss you buddy...

"Thinking of the day, when you went away. What a life to take, what a bond to break, we'll be missing you."

Trust me, Mitch was on BGP every day, but not once did he ever post. The first day I posted he called me up to welcome me to the forum. He figured out who I was in a nano second. We often talked about the threads and what was being said. That's another thing I'll miss about my buddy.

I didn't know Mitch well. We played pick up games together at the barn for a couple of winters. He was my cousins best friend and I loved to tailgate with them. Not 1 time did I have a conversation with Mitch and not laugh my behind off. An incredibly funny person. I am praying for his family and all those that he touched.

Thought's and prayers from all of us at Tri State Internet Sports. We'll definately mention it at our games tonight.

Was this just an accident? I remember him from the team photo, from the comments on here it seems like he was one in a million.

Mitch had always had what we thought was a minor heart problem, even back to his high school playing days. A couple of years back, he had a pacemaker installed.

He apparently died of a massive heart attack. Ironically, his annual checkup was going to be this coming Tuesday.

Mitch loved life and lived it to the fullest. He worked hard and played hard. He was loved by all of those who had the privlege of knowing him.

Last night several folks were asking what had happened; I had no idea.
