Mitch had always had what we thought was a minor heart problem, even back to his high school playing days. A couple of years back, he had a pacemaker installed.

 

He apparently died of a massive heart attack. Ironically, his annual checkup was going to be this coming Tuesday.

 

Mitch loved life and lived it to the fullest. He worked hard and played hard. He was loved by all of those who had the privlege of knowing him.

Yep, he was scheduled to see the cardiologist this coming week. We actually share the same cardiologist.

I have been receiving calls and email from dozens of people during the past two days. It is hard to know what to say or write about Mitch. There are just so many good things you can say about him, so I wanted to write just a few.

 

Mitch was a genuine, kind and respectful young man. Mitch cared about Brossart, Mitch cared about kids, Mitch cared about NKU. Mitch proud to have earned his degree at NKU and he helped to get me involved in volunteering in the Construction Management Dept. He was one of the few people I know that everyone liked. When we saw Mitch out at Barleycorns kids and adults flocked to him. He had a way of making everyone around him feel good.

 

I am really going to miss Mitch. He was such a giver. He always gave hope and confidence to his players. He gave his time and talents to help others and he was always quick to give everyony around him a big smile or a good laugh.

 

May God bless his family and friends during this difficult time.

The layout and funeral were surreal. I've never experienced anything like it.

Mitch will be missed!

Unfortunately, I have been to a lot of funerals, I have never seen an out-poring like this in my life. This young man was something special.

 

The service by St. Mary's pastor was incredible.

I think Mitch would have issued a big W - O - W! if he would have seen the crowd at his visitation and would have laughed seeing that he had filled St. Mary Church and created a major SRO event. Mitch's visitation was billed for 4pm to 8pm, which we knew wasn't going to happen, but, the first visitor came through the line at 3:45pm and the last one at 11:50pm. This well might have been the single, largest, single day visitation event in NoKy history. We've had some big ones - this one took the cake.

 

The BMustangs website gets from 300 to 500 hits on a routine news day. A few more on game days and the day after a game, and up to 600-800 if the Mustangs are out of town playing in a tournament. On the day that Nathan Seiter died in 2004, when the site probably wasn't the place to come for BRossart community news as it is today, there were 1400 hits - an incredible number of hits for the time.

 

On Friday, the BMustangs website had just short of 4,000 hits.

 

I put a link to Mitch's 2008 7th Grade Diocesan Tournament broadcast thinking maybe 50-60 might check it out. As of this moment that broadcast replay with the Mitch interviews has drawn 416 listeners. The boy was popular.

 

Fr. Egbers did a great job. I'm sure that Mitch's players will remember that sermon for the rest of their lives - I know I will. I was not in the mood to listen to some canned sermon about Lazarus and his sisters (again) and didn't get one. This man did his homework and nailed Mitch all of the way down to his $4 haircut.

 

Mitch was my close pesonal friend. Looks like I shared that distinction with a whole lot of folks. :cry:
