February 26, 201016 yr Kevin Durant or Greg Oden? Add that to this list... Peyton Manning or Ryan Leaf? Sam Bowie or Michael Jordan? Jodie Meeks or Stephen Curry? (probably nowhere else but BGP, but...) Any others?
February 26, 201016 yr I never debated Oden over Durant. It was a non debate. Oden was highly overrated coming out of college.
February 26, 201016 yr Author I never debated Oden over Durant. It was a non debate. Oden was highly overrated coming out of college. I'd say it was pretty much 50-50 at the time, the thinking being that there are very few great centers in the NBA and you better get one while you can.
February 26, 201016 yr It's hard to predict injuries, and Oden hasn't been blessed with health so far. I thought Durant's game would equal success in the league but I also thought Oden would be a solid pro at the 5, which is the weakest position in the league talent wise.
February 26, 201016 yr Coming out of college, Oden was the best fit. A good center is hard to come by, and I think Oden can still be one of the better centers in the league.

Find me anyone that tall in their late 40s with healthy knees and feet...

February 26, 201016 yr I don't think Oden was ever overrated he just could never stay healthy. He has the skills. Now as far the debate I was taking Durant all day.
February 26, 201016 yr I can't remember who I was taking back then. I hope it was not Oden, but I really can't remember.

Portland already had a future star at the wing in Roy and a promising young supporting cast so a dominant center would have made their team complete for the future IMO. Had Oden delivered on his promise maybe the Blazers would have already become contenders in the West. When he's on the floor I think you can see flashes of why he was so highly though of. I think next year is the make or break year for him. He's either going to stay healthy and continue to grow as a player or be labled a bust. I don't know if anyone who thought Oden was the better prospect doubted that Durant would become a great player. But I think you have to look at the Magic as to why the Blazers took Oden. A great NBA center can easily help make a team a contender. Without a quality big inside, Durant's team may never reach the serious contender status.

February 26, 201016 yr I don't think Oden was ever overrated he just could never stay healthy. He has the skills. Now as far the debate I was taking Durant all day. He was overrated because people expected him to be 20/10 guy. He's an 8/10 guy at best. Zero offensive game besides the dunk.
February 26, 201016 yr Also with the Steph Curry - Jodie Meeks comparison, yikes were people wrong so far. I don't know that I ever felt either would be an outstanding NBA player but Curry has impressed me alot. Dude should get some serious R.O.Y consideration IMO.
